Job Description

Job Title: Special Education Extended School Year (ESY) Coordinator

Responsible to: Director of Special Education

Position Overview

The Public Schools of Brookline (PSB) are seeking three (3) Extended School Year Coordinators for the Summer 2025 to coordinate all aspects of the district’s Extended School Year program, supporting students whose Individual Education Program (IEP) requires a longer school year to prevent substantial regression.

Summer programming dates begin on July 6th and extend through August 14th, 2026. The Special Education ESY Coordinator must be on site and present during all summer program days of operation.

Qualifications:

  • Massachusetts DESE special education certification and licensure required
  • Special education administrative experience preferred
  • Knowledge of special education laws and regulations required
  • QBS/Safety Care Specialist and/or Trainer certification preferred
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, parents/guardians, community, and others in the delivery of effective services
  • Strong interpersonal and written/oral communication skills, enabling information sharing and the development of trusting relationships with parents/guardians, and staff.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Understands and applies federal, state, and local laws, policies, regulations, and procedures and protocols.
  • Plans and coordinates all ESY special education services including scheduling of students for required services and managing program logistics.
  • Communicates and consults with parents, administrators and other professionals on students’ academic, social and behavioral needs.
  • Provides oversight and support to all programs and services.
  • Provides supervision and support to all extended school year staff.
  • Coordinates hiring of all extended school year staff, including but not limited to special educators and related service providers.
  • Supports de-escalation strategies for students exhibiting significant dysregulation in the school setting.
  • Monitors student progress on IEP goals and objectives ensuring that progress reports are written and submitted at the end of each program.
  • Coordinates transportation services for all eligible students
  • Oversee staff orientations and team meetings
  • Coordinate and lead parent/caretaker orientation meetings
  • Identify and purchase supplies for students and staff
  • Work in collaboration with the Director of Facilities and Director of Technology to ensure space is available and technology supports are in place for students and families
  • Coordinate with food services to provide meals for students
  • Facilitate and respond to staff and parent/caretaker communication
  • Attend PSB Summer Partners monthly meetings
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Deputy Superintendent of Student Services, Director of Special Education and/or Principal/head of School

This position is paid starting at $13,000 pending level of position.
