Job DescriptionApply knowledge of best practices in teaching special education students to meet content area and academic support needs of students with mild/moderate disabilities.
Duties include but are not limited to:- Massachusetts DESE special education certification and licensure required
- Massachusetts DESE 8-12 Physics certification and licensure required
- Sheltered English Immersion Endorsement required
- Co-teaching experience preferred
- Knowledge and expertise using formal and informal assessments required
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleague, parents/guardians, and others in the delivery of effective services
- Superior organizational, written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrate appropriate long and short term preparation for classroom instruction
- Hold high expectations for all students
- Organize and use a variety of effective teaching techniques, strategies, materials, and technologies to maximize the learning of each child, individually and in group settings
- Continuously assess student progress, provide students and parents with specific feedback, and use the results to adjust instruction as needed
- Provide opportunities for academic support and challenge
- Teaching the appropriate MA standards in the Brookline scope and sequence
- Demonstrate an understanding of how knowledge in the subject areas is created, organized, and linked to other disciplines and life experiences
- Collaborate with colleagues to examine student data, plan curriculum, and ensure appropriate learning experiences for all students
- Demonstrates an understanding of grading for equity and standards based grading.
- Establish and maintain a functional, attractive, orderly, and safe classroom environment that is conducive to student learning and builds a sense of community
- Co-teach or provide small group subject matter instruction
- Complete formal and informal assessments as part of the regulatory process
- Monitor student mastery of IEP goals and objectives using various assessments and data collection tools
- Utilize data to inform the development of academic and social emotional goals
- Provide individualized and small group support and instruction across content areas to target IEP goals and objectives
- Collaborate with general education teacher to adapt curricular materials in order to meet the individual needs of students
- Meet all timelines in the IEP process, including but not limited to participating in IEP meetings, developing IEPs and progress reports, completing evaluations and reevaluations.
