Primary job responsibilities include assisting the classroom teacher during daily learning activities and supporting students to successfully access and participate in all classroom activities. Teacher Assistants will also be able to work with small groups of students under the supervision of the classroom teacher.
The summer program begins on Monday, July 27, 2026 and concludes on Friday, August 14, 2026. Teacher Assistants are expected to work from 8:15am to 12:45pm Monday through Friday except on days of the program when hours may be extended for project-based learning activities.
It is important for Teacher Assistants to be dependable as daily attendance is critical to providing consistent support for our students during this intensive summer program.
The ideal candidate will be flexible, patient, work collaboratively with the classroom teacher, be respectful of the diversity among students, and possess an enthusiasm for working with our young scholars.
Classroom Responsibilities:
- Support curriculum and instruction under the direction of the teacher
- Prepare and coordinate materials for learning activities at the request of the teacher
- Support students' ability to follow the classroom routine and assist with student engagement during large and small group instruction
- Support young children's social problem-solving skills and behavior regulation throughout the program
- Greet students each morning and afternoon, and support smooth transitions into the classroom and between classroom learning activities throughout the day
- Maintain a safe environment in all program spaces (classroom, hallways, outdoor play areas) by carefully observing students and supporting appropriate behaviors for these spaces
- Maintain classroom displays and project work at the request of the teacher
- Provide positive and supportive learning experiences for all students
- Support the teacher in the implementation of classroom management systems and reinforcement systems
- Other duties as assigned by the classroom teacher
- Arrive promptly
- Refer parent/guardian concerns directly to classroom teachers, program paraprofessionals, program adjustment counselors, or program administrators
- Attend all meetings that are scheduled for staff to the greatest extent possible
- Applicants must have positive references
- Applicants must be energetic individuals with a strong desire to work with children
- Communicate effectively- both in written and oral form- using positive interpersonal skills
- Demonstrate ethical behavior and confidentiality of student information
- Model responsible use of technology including personal cell phones
- Provide a safe learning environment for students
- Be a positive role model for students
- Be fluent in English; knowledge of another language is strongly preferred
