Job DescriptionTeaching positions (up to 20) are available for Project Discovery, Brookline’s summer literacy program, for students entering grades 1-6.
Program
Description:
The program runs from Monday, July 6 through Friday, July 31, 2026 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. There will be one orientation day the week of June 29, 2026.
Students in the program have demonstrated the need for literacy support over the summer. The projected class size ratio is 12:1, allowing teachers to provide for each student’s individual needs. Classes may include English Learners and students who require accommodations, modifications and instruction particular to their learning profiles.
Responsibilities:
Work from 8:00 until 12:30 daily. Attend two after‑school meetings in the spring and one day of training and preparation before the program begins, as well as weekly faculty meetings during the program. Design and implement focused, targeted instruction for reading, writing and language as described during the training session and throughout the session. Use the results of ELA assessments to identify which skills and strategies are most important for each student’s summer learning.
Implement a curricular course of study as outlined by the director. Complete an end‑of‑program assessment and progress report for each student.
Qualifications:
Current classroom teacher or a specialist in the Public Schools of Brookline. Experience teaching in the grades K‑6. Knowledge of best instructional practices in literacy. Strong background in literacy instruction and assessment. Experience implementing the Fishtank ELA, Fundations, and Heggerty. Willingness to work with colleagues.
