Job DescriptionThe Public Schools of Brookline seeks Steps to Success Program Advisors for Elementary and Middle School. The Advisors report to the Unit B Steps to Success District Director.
PSB Steps to Success Advisors for Elementary and Middle School work with economically disadvantaged students at four Brookline elementary schools. They serve in an advisory capacity, working with families and helping students to achieve academically, set personal goals, and plan for college.
Under the direction of the PSB STS District Director,
Responsibilities include:
- Work intensively during the school day (8:00am-2:30pm) with individual students identified as STS participants in grades 3-8 as a school-based program advisor to students and their families.
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, guidance counselors, and other school staff to effectively support students’ academic and personal growth.
- Build personal relationships that improve connections between home and school.
- Conduct frequent outreach on behalf of students. Inform parents/guardians about extended school day programs and help families access programs and other community resources and opportunities.
- Communicate with families of rising 3rd graders, introducing them to PSB programs and STS, Inc. opportunities, encouraging and facilitating participation.
- Work closely with High School advisors to facilitate a positive transition to High School program for rising freshmen.
- Attend relevant school meetings (ex: IEP meetings) on behalf of student/family.
- Summarize information on grades, attendance, participation STS activities, and non-STS activities to keep families fully informed and able to engage in conversations about additional supports and opportunities available through the PSB and STS Inc.
- Facilitate student access to extended school day/year programs and opportunities; support positive student participation in after school and summer programs.
- Work in coordination with other Steps to Success Advisors to facilitate cross-district consistency of programs and processes.
- Provide site-based oversight for after-school programs (After Hours U and Teen Advantage) that targets economically disadvantaged students (2 pm-5 pm).
- Support student enrollment in summer program opportunities provided by Steps to Success, Inc. and other partners; monitor students during the summer to ensure students are attending and successfully completing their summer programming experience (camps, extended learning, internships, jobs); maintaining data on participation in STS programs.
PSB Advisors report to the PSB Unit B District Director.
PSB Advisors for elementary and middle school are supervised by the PSB Step to Success District Director and the building principal.
Program Advisors positions are full year. Advisors work a 7.5-hour day (8 hours with half hour lunch). An advisor's default daily schedule will be from 8 to 4. Advisors will transition to the management of after-school programs at 2 pm. Hours may be adjusted to accommodate other regularly occurring morning, afternoon, and/or evening program responsibilities.
