Perioperative Registered Nurse (RN) – Outpatient Surgery Center

Location:

Longwood Plastic Surgery, Brookline MA

Position:
Full-Time, Perioperative RN

Schedule:

Monday – Friday

About Us:

At Longwood Plastic Surgery, we are committed to providing high-quality, patient-centered care in a comfortable, private and efficient outpatient setting. Our outpatient surgery center specializes in a variety of procedures, and we offer a personalized experience for each patient. We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Perioperative Registered Nurse (RN) to join our dynamic team in our single-room outpatient OR.

Position Overview

As a Perioperative RN, you will play a vital role in delivering exceptional care to our patients throughout all phases of the surgical experience. This includes preoperative assessment and preparation, assisting in the sterile surgical environment, and providing postoperative care. Working in a small, close-knit team, you’ll have the opportunity to impact patient outcomes directly while enjoying a supportive, streamlined work environment.

This position requires the ability and willingness to function in both the circulating and scrub nurse roles. As part of our small, collaborative surgical team, the successful candidate will regularly scrub surgical procedures and should expect to work in the scrub role approximately one to two days per week, depending on the surgical schedule. Candidates must be comfortable maintaining a sterile field, anticipating surgeon needs, and demonstrating proficiency with surgical instrumentation and aseptic technique.

Key Responsibilities
  • Preoperative Phase:
    • Conduct patient assessments, including medical history and medication review.
    • Provide education to patients about their procedure, recovery process, and address any questions or concerns.
    • Prepare the patient for surgery, ensuring that they are properly positioned, prepped and ready for their procedure.
    • Verify patient identity, surgical site, and procedure, adhering to safety protocols.
  • Intraoperative Phase:
    • Assist with maintaining a sterile field and ensuring all aseptic techniques are followed.
    • Monitor vital signs throughout the surgical procedure.
    • Administer medications, anesthesia support, and IV fluids as required.
    • Collaborate with the surgeon and anesthesiologist to ensure the patient’s safety and comfort during the procedure.
    • Monitor patients as they emerge from anesthesia, ensuring stable vital signs and comfort.
    • Provide post-surgical care and education to patients, including pain management and wound care.
    • Document all nursing interventions and patient responses in the medical record.
    • Coordinate discharge planning, providing clear instructions for home care.
  • General Responsibilities:
    • Adhere to all safety protocols, including surgical time-out procedures and infection control standards.
    • Maintain effective communication with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
    • Assist with maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and readiness of the operating room.
    • Collaborate with the surgical team to ensure smooth operations and excellent patient care.
Qualifications
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in MA.
  • Demonstrated recent scrub nurse experience is required. This is not a circulating-only position. Candidates must be comfortable and proficient in the scrub role and willing to scrub surgical procedures on a regular basis.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification and ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification required.
  • Strong knowledge of aseptic technique, surgical instruments, and OR procedures.
  • Excellent communication, critical thinking, and patient care skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
Why Join Us
  • Work in a small, supportive, and dedicated team.
  • Be part of a growing and innovative outpatient surgical center that prioritizes patient care.

If you're passionate about providing high-quality perioperative care and want to be part of an outstanding team in an outpatient surgery setting, we want to hear from you!
