Coordinator, Deaf & Hard of Hearing Operations & Communication Access, Disability Services

Under the direction of the Senior Coordinator for Deaf & Hard of Hearing Services, the Coordinator serves as the operational lead for communication access services and provides direct support for Deaf & Hard of Hearing accommodations. Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) is required, as the incumbent regularly communicates directly with Deaf and Hard of Hearing students, faculty, staff, interpreters, and service providers.

This position is in-person and functions as the primary backup to the Senior Coordinator and helps ensure continuity of operations across communication access requests, interpreter and captioning services, vendor management, event accessibility, and departmental compliance initiatives.

Essential Functions:

  • 35% Communication Access & Event Coordination
    • Receives, processes, and schedules requests for communication access.
    • Coordinates sign language interpreters, CART providers, captioning vendors, and related services.
    • Advises departments on communication access requirements for university events.
    • Serves as primary point of contact for event accessibility planning.
  • 25% DHH Operations & Service Delivery
    • Supports accommodation implementation for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students.
    • Maintains service records, scheduling systems, and operational documentation.
    • Assists with interpreter and captioning assignments for academic and co-curricular activities.
    • Monitors service coverage and escalates gaps or operational concerns.
    • Serves as backup for critical DHH operational functions during staff absences.
  • 15% Interpreter & Vendor Management
    • Maintains interpreter and CART provider roster.
    • Assists with recruitment, onboarding, and orientation of contracted providers.
    • Tracks credentials, certifications, availability, and performance.
    • Supports vendor relationship management and contract administration.
  • 10% Training & Outreach
    • Develops and delivers training for faculty, staff, and departments.
    • Provides consultation on communication access and accessibility best practices.
    • Creates and maintains resource materials.
  • 10% Systems, Reporting & Process Improvement
    • Maintains databases, forms, website, and operational documentation.
    • Produces reports and metrics related to communication access requests, service utilization, and provider coverage.
    • Supports continuous improvement initiatives and technology implementations.
  • 5% Other Duties as Assigned

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree required;
    Master's degree preferred.
  • Two years of progressively responsible professional experience in disability services, Deaf & Hard of Hearing services, higher education, or a related field.
  • Professional fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to providing exceptional customer service and fostering an inclusive, student-centered environment.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, take initiative, and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, faculty, staff, and external vendors.
