Job Description & How to Apply Below
The Ivy Street School is a small, year-round private residential special education school serving neurodiverse adolescents and young adults ages 13–22. We believe every student has the potential to build a life of joy, purpose, independence, and meaningful connection.
Our multidisciplinary team creates educational and therapeutic experiences that help students develop the skills they need to transition successfully into adulthood. From the classroom to the residence and throughout the Boston community, our students are constantly learning—and our staff are an important part of that journey.
We are looking for an Assistant Therapeutic Community Supervisor who is ready to lead, inspire, and make a difference.
About the Role As an Assistant Therapeutic Community Supervisor, you will be a key leader within Ivy Street's therapeutic residential community. You will work alongside our residential and clinical teams to create a safe, supportive, structured, and engaging environment where students can learn and grow.
This is an active, hands-on leadership position. You'll help students develop independence through everyday experiences, support them with activities of daily living, lead community-based activities, facilitate engaging programming, and help students build the skills they need for adulthood.
When the Residential Supervisor is not present, you will lead the residential shift, providing direction and support to the residential team.
What You'll DoLead and support residential staff in creating a safe, positive, and therapeutic environment.
Provide individualized support based on each student's educational, behavioral, and treatment needs.
Help students develop independence with activities of daily living, personal routines, community participation, and life skills.
Lead engaging recreational, enrichment, and learning activities.
Support students using therapeutic approaches including CPI, PBIS, and the ARC Framework of Trauma-Informed Care.
Lead community-based trips and help students build confidence and independence outside of the school setting.
Understand and follow students' treatment goals, behavior plans, and crisis plans.
Respond to behavioral and emotional needs and lead crisis interventions when necessary.
Provide structure and support during afternoon and evening routines.
Complete required documentation, including daily student progress notes and incident reports.
Build positive and professional relationships with students and their families.
Maintain strong professional boundaries and model appropriate staff/student interactions.
Provide coaching and feedback to residential team members.
Participate actively in weekly Residential Department meetings and contribute ideas for improving programming.
Help maintain high standards of health, safety, and therapeutic practice throughout the residential program.
Step into a leadership role and provide direction to the residential team when the Residential Supervisor is absent.
What We're Looking For We are looking for someone who is:
A natural leader who can motivate and support a team.
Patient, flexible, and creative when working with neurodiverse young people.
Comfortable working in an active residential environment.
Able to remain calm and effective during challenging situations.
Passionate about helping young people develop independence and life skills.
Strong at communication, organization, and follow-through.
Comfortable providing constructive feedback and holding team members accountable.
Willing to take initiative and do whatever it takes to help students succeed.
Committed to creating an environment where students feel respected, supported, and successful.
