Job Overview

To foster a culture of learning, Academic Coaches at New Millennium Academy (NMA) inspire and empower teachers to become equity-focused instructional decision-makers. Academic Coaches work closely with teachers to discover and implement research-based best practices, including data-driven instruction and needs-driven interventions.

This role involves coordinating curricula, providing job-embedded coaching for individuals and teams, and facilitating school-wide professional development. The ideal candidate possesses a strong work ethic, instructional expertise in a core subject area, and a deep commitment to NMA’s mission of preparing global leaders who transform the world.

Key Responsibilities
  • Partner with teachers and administrators to identify and coordinate curricula that align with Minnesota state standards.
  • Facilitate the unpacking of priority standards and lead vertical and horizontal curriculum mapping processes to ensure a seamless scope and sequence across grade levels.
  • Support teachers in unit and lesson planning, ensuring that instructional materials are culturally responsive and rigorous.
  • Recommend curriculum resources and supplemental materials to administrators based on scholar performance data.
  • Model effective, research-based instructional strategies, with a specific focus on strategies that support English Language Learners (ELL) and diverse scholar populations.
  • Provide ongoing, job-embedded coaching for individual teachers and grade-level teams, utilizing a non-evaluative coaching cycle to improve classroom practice.
  • Support the implementation of the Science of Reading (for literacy-focused coaching) or Inquiry-Based Learning (for math/science-focused coaching) as applicable.
  • Conduct frequent classroom observations to identify instructional strengths and opportunities for growth, partnering with administrators to prioritize school-wide needs.
  • Support the integration of PBIS strategies and social-emotional learning (SEL) into daily instruction, reinforcing the “RHINO Way.”
  • Facilitate data-driven instruction by training teachers to administer common assessments and collaboratively review results.
  • Partner with the Data Analyst to develop and utilize instructional dashboards that drive achievement.
  • Review weekly, quarterly, and annual data points to identify trends and advise on changes to instructional work plans, aligning with the principle: "Understand how data drives decisions."
  • Lead the design of Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions and progress monitoring systems, training teachers to reteach differently and differentiate effectively for individual scholars.
  • Facilitate comprehensive orientation and ongoing support for new teachers to ensure their successful integration into NMA’s culture of learning.
  • Identify, develop, and facilitate professional learning opportunities for whole-staff or targeted groups based on instructional data.
  • Foster a collaborative environment through peer-observation opportunities and PLC support.
  • Actively promote NMA's Mission: "to prepare learners for life by engaging them in high academic achievement and fostering cultural pride and identity."
  • Perform other duties as assigned by school leadership.
Qualifications
  • Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in Education, English, Mathematics, Literacy, or a related field required. Master’s Degree in Education, Leadership, or Curriculum & Instruction preferred.
  • Licensure:
    Current Minnesota Teaching License required.
  • Experience:

3+ years of successful classroom teaching experience required. Previous experience in educational coaching, school leadership, or curriculum design strongly preferred.
  • Deep knowledge of research-based pedagogical strategies and state standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret complex data sets and translate them into actionable instructional changes.
  • Ability to provide sensitive, non-evaluative feedback…
