Job Summary
The EH&S Specialist is responsible for supporting and maintaining Environmental, Health & Safety programs within a fast-paced distribution environment. This role ensures compliance with OSHA, DOT, and other regulatory requirements while promoting a strong safety culture across warehouse and transportation operations. The position focuses on workplace safety, DOT compliance, workers’ compensation management, and employee safety training.
Key Responsibilities- Implement and maintain EH&S programs to support safe distribution, warehousing, and transportation operations
- Ensure compliance with OSHA
, DOT/FMCSA
, and applicable state and local regulations - Manage DOT safety compliance, including driver qualification files, hours of service, vehicle inspections, accident reporting, and audit preparation
- Administer workers’ compensation claims
, including injury reporting, investigations, return-to-work coordination, and communication with insurance carriers and medical providers - Conduct regular warehouse and yard safety inspections
, including racking systems, material handling equipment, dock operations, and pedestrian traffic controls - Perform job hazard analyses (JHAs) and ergonomic assessments for warehouse associates and drivers
- Lead incident, injury, and near-miss investigations and implement corrective and preventive actions
- Develop, deliver, and track safety training programs
, including new hire orientation, forklift/PIT safety, DOT awareness, hazard communication, lockout/tagout, and emergency response - Maintain accurate EH&S records, logs, and reports (OSHA 300/301, training records, incident documentation)
- Support emergency preparedness, spill response, and evacuation planning
- Partner with warehouse leadership, operations, and transportation teams to drive continuous safety improvement and accountability
- Minimum of 2 years of EH&S or safety experience
, preferably in a distribution, warehouse, logistics, or transportation environment - Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations
, DOT/FMCSA requirements
, and general warehouse safety standards - Hands‑on experience managing workers’ compensation cases and injury reporting
- Experience conducting safety training for warehouse associates and drivers
- Familiarity with material handling equipment (forklifts, pallet jacks, conveyors) and dock safety
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills
- Associate degree in Safety, Environmental Health, Occupational Safety, or a related field is a plus
- Safety certifications such as OSHA 30
, ASP
, CSP
, or equivalent - Experience supporting multi‑shift or high‑volume distribution centers
- Knowledge of ergonomics, fleet safety programs, and contractor safety management
Work Environment Requirements
- Ability to work in a warehouse environment with exposure to noise, moving equipment, and varying temperatures
- Ability to conduct floor walks, audits, and training sessions
- Occasional lifting, standing, walking, bending, and climbing as required
- May require occasional travel between distribution centers or terminals
