POSITION SUMMARYAs a Neighbor Services SHHCC Advisor, you will be the first point of contact for individuals seeking food assistance and related resources. A critical part of this role is supporting access to SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), which helps families and individuals afford nutritious food and reduce hunger. Advisors provide direct support through phone calls and other channels, assist with applications, and connect neighbors to community programs.
This role is primarily customer-facing (70–100%) with some reporting, outreach, and special projects.
- Respond to inquiries professionally and empathetically via phone, email, and other channels.
- Conduct eligibility screenings for SNAP, CSFP/NAPS, and other programs.
- Provide application assistance and share community resources.
- Coordinate referrals and schedule specialized support.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and security requirements.
- Track data accurately and meet monthly referral and application goals.
- Collaborate with internal teams and community partners to improve outreach.
- Stay current on SNAP and Commodity Supplemental Food Program - Nutritional Assistance Program for Seniors (CSFP/NAPS) policy at State and Federal levels.
- Participate in trainings and occasional in-person meetings (2–4 times per quarter).
- Exceptional customer service and communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with databases (Service Now preferred).
- Comfortable with phone-based work and remote setup (secure workspace and reliable internet required).
- Bilingual in Somali, Spanish, Hmong, or Russian.
- Experience with diverse populations and nonprofit/community organizations.
- Interest in health equity, nutrition, and food access.
- Access to reliable transportation for outreach events and meetings.
