Overview
The Special Events Assistant supports the Community Events Team with pre/post event tasks and on-site operations. This seasonal position involves working Brooklyn Park special events:
Game Night and Puzzle Competition, Tater Daze Parade, Tater Daze Community Gathering, River Park Festival, Farmers Market, Latino Fest, Spooktacular, and more. Special Events Specialists gain hands-on event management, and leadership skills. Age Requirement: 18+.

Responsibilities- Support pre/post event tasks and on-site operations for each event.
- Uphold standards and regulations for vendors and customers (including food safety, rules and regulations, etc.).
- Communicate respectfully and transparently with event attendees and vendors and resolve any disputes that arise between and among event constituents.
- Set up/take down of Celebrate Brooklyn Parks events including moving barricades, tents, tables, chairs, and other event equipment.
- Promote Brooklyn Park events through culturally relevant marketing channels.
- Assist in connecting with communities of color, seniors, and families with young children.
- Work with the Recreation Community Events Specialist to review, create, and/or update events systems to promote sustainability for events.
- Maintain an inventory of supplies and equipment; distribute supplies and equipment; assist with ordering supplies and equipment for events.
- Support evaluation efforts through gathering and inputting evaluations.
- Ensure a safe and healthy work environment and conduct business in a safe manner.
- Create and lead activities as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
High school diploma or equivalent.
ExperienceExperience in recreational activities, special events, or customer service.
LicensesCurrent driver's license by the start date.

- Facilitate recreational programs and activities, creating an environment that is inclusive and supportive to all participants, addressing both individual and community needs.
- Ability to drive and park a truck attached to a trailer.
- Establish and maintain positive working relationships with peers, participants, and the public.
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to write basic reports and office correspondence.
- Fluent in English; both spoken and written.
- Independently solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations.
- Ability to provide a level of customer service that meets or exceeds customer expectation and satisfaction.
- Ability to relate and work effectively with people from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, racial and ethnic backgrounds.

- Work is performed in several types of environments that may involve extended periods of standing, and moving about, setting up events and facilitating a variety of recreational activities during the day, evenings, or weekends in both indoor and outdoor facilities.
- Traveling to various locations in the Brooklyn Park area.
- Ability to meet physical demands of the job, including but not limited to lifting, bending, climbing, reaching overhead, pushing and pulling.
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
- The Special Events Assistant will work intermittent hours depending on events and must be available to work on the following dates:
