Salary Range: $25 to $45 an hour. Commensurate with experience.

Start Date:

The ELA teacher is responsible for building an engaging and dynamic learning community which nurtures the social, emotional, cognitive, physical, and spiritual development of each student in the classroom. The teacher will be responsible for teaching a full class period to a mixed‑age group of KG to first grade students (ages 5–6). Instruction focuses on reading, writing, and language development while encompassing Elham Academy’s mission and values.

Schedule:

M/W for 90 minutes, ELA is targeted for the first period of the morning where possible.

Start Date:

September 2026, Paid, On‑site and virtual training begins during summer 2026.

  • High‑impact instructional presence; able to command a room and keep students engaged for a concentrated 90‑minute block
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills to maximize limited instructional minutes
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills with a proactive approach to remote coordination since they are off‑site most of the week
  • Intellectual curiosity, and an innate desire to continually reflect and be coached
  • Interest and/or passion in holistic education and embodying its values into the learning environment
  • Experience with Project Based Learning
  • Reliable and consistent, with a personal schedule that aligns long‑term with part‑time, twice‑weekly mornings
  • Flexible, adaptable, and resourceful
  • Motivated and self‑driven
Licensing and Education Requirements
  • Must be 19 years old or older and have the following minimum qualifications:
  • High School diploma and/or successful completion of college course credits
  • Bachelor’s, Master’s or higher degree in the field of education, preferred
  • Completion of 90 clock hours or equivalent of approved early childhood coursework, or willing to pursue coursework
  • Practical and theoretical understanding of child development, effective teaching and learning strategies, or willing to pursue coursework
  • Must pass criminal background check
  • Maintain current Adult/Infant CPR & First Aid certification or obtain certification by approved vendor
  • US Citizenship or Green Card Holder. The candidate must be able to legally work in the United States.
Desired Qualifications
  • An inspirational and passionate teacher with a familiarity with Muslim family or community educational settings
  • 2 years (3 preferred) of experience working closely with young children in a private or public school, licensed child care center, nursery school, religious‑operated school, or similar setting
  • Commitment to and experience working with students from diverse backgrounds with unique academic and personal needs, especially across mixed readiness levels
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including proficiency in email, word processing, Google Suite, etc.
Overall Responsibilities
  • Maintain a quality early education program which follows Elham Academy’s philosophy, mission, and values
  • Regularly engage and interact with parents in and out of the classroom to embody the cooperative “co‑op” spirit of the school
  • Plan and execute age‑appropriate ELA lessons that are engaging, organized, and clear, in alignment with the inquiry‑based learning approach
  • Maintain privacy and confidentiality of families
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to create a calm, positive, and well‑managed learning environment for the full class
  • Maintain weekly and monthly open communication with families, parent volunteers, and Director
  • Observe and maintain student learning plans to establish clear goals for each student
  • Prepare for and conduct at least two annual parent teacher conferences for each student
  • Complete timely and accurate documentation of screenings, anecdotal records, student observations, assessments, individualized plans, and attendance
