Job Description This position provides leadership, coordination, and specialized support for all military-connected students at North Hennepin Community College (NHCC), including Veterans, current service members, and eligible dependents. The individual serves as the institution’s primary School Certifying Official (SCO) and subject matter expert on federal, state, and institutional education benefits related to military service. As the Military and Veteran Services Coordinator, the position also leads programming and services that support enrollment, retention, engagement, community integration, and overall success of military-connected students.

The role plays a key part in cross-departmental coordination with Admissions, Advising, Financial Aid, Registration, Student Services, and Accounting/Fees to provide holistic support. This position independently interprets and applies complex policies, ensures compliance with federal and state regulations, and builds strong campus and community partnerships to advance the success and sense of belonging of military-connected students. This position is an active member of the Student Life department.

Salary Range: $26.16 - $37.91 hourly

Minimum Qualifications
  • A minimum of two years (2) of professional experience.
  • An associate’s degree may substitute for six (6) months of experience, a bachelor’s for twelve (12) months, or a master’s for eighteen (18) months.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population of students, staff, and faculty.
  • Experience and/or training related to serving military-connected individuals and addressing their unique needs and barriers to resources.
  • Experience and/or training in data collection and management.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across multiple departments/functional areas.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills to effectively advise students and coordinate services.
  • Ability to interpret and apply federal and state regulations, institutional policies, and benefit guidelines.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in higher education, student affairs, counseling, public administration, or a related field.
  • Two or more years of direct experience working with military-connected students in a higher education setting; demonstrated understanding of their educational barriers and benefits navigation in higher education.
  • In-depth knowledge of VA education benefits (e.g., Chapters 30, 31, 33, 35, 1606), DoD Tuition Assistance, and/or the Minnesota GI Bill.
  • Prior experience serving as a School Certifying Official (SCO).
  • Experience using Minnesota State information systems/CRM such as ISRS, Workday, and Slate.
  • Demonstrated success developing and delivering programming or services for underserved and non-traditional student populations.
  • Experience advising students on the coordination of military education benefits with financial aid, academic planning, and/or institutional policies.
