The CAD Designer will be responsible for developing and maintaining detailed 3D CAD models and assemblies in support of product design and development. This role requires strong experience with large assemblies, kinematic modeling, and routed systems. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with engineering and cross-functional teams to ensure designs meet functional, quality, and manufacturing requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Create, modify, and manage complex 3D CAD models and large assemblies.
- Develop kinematic models using joints and couplers to simulate motion and functional behavior.
- Design and model routed systems such as cables, hoses, and wiring paths.
- Support design reviews by preparing detailed CAD layouts, sections, and drawings.
- Maintain CAD data integrity, configuration control, and documentation per company standards.
- Collaborate with mechanical engineers, manufacturing, and suppliers to resolve design issues.
- Incorporate design changes and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with applicable engineering standards and best practices.
- Proven experience working with large and complex assemblies.
- Strong ability to utilize joints and couplers to build kinematic and motion models.
- Experience modeling routed systems within CAD environments.
- Proficiency in at least one major CAD platform (e.g., CATIA, NX, Creo, or Solid Works).
- Strong understanding of mechanical design principles and GD&T.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment.
- Good communication and documentation skills.
- Experience with automotive door assemblies.
- Exposure to “A”-side surfacing (Class A surfacing experience is a plus but not required).
- Experience in the automotive or transportation industry.
- Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Design Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
