This is a rare opportunity to build and lead the Facilities & Real Estate, EH&S, and Physical Security functions for a newly formed, standalone joint-venture with global operations and ~$400M+ in annual revenues. We're seeking a senior operational leader accountable for the strategic direction, physical infrastructure, EH&S posture, and global physical security program of a high-throughput book manufacturing and fulfillment enterprise.
Our flagship 1.3M sq ft site integrates printing, binding, warehousing, fulfillment, and corporate offices—running 24/5 with 24/7 overtime support. A second production facility in Buenos Aires and hybrid employees across multiple continents extend our global footprint. You'll own three interconnected domains—
Facilities & Real Estate, EH&S, and Physical Security
—deploying resources through a hybrid model of internal teams and strategic vendor partners, with the capital resources and executive backing to build lasting programs and operational excellence.
In this opportunity as Director, Facilities & Real Estate, EH&S & Physical Security
, you will be responsible for:
- Facilities Management — Oversee HVAC, electrical, fire protection, and building automation systems across the Minnesota campus and secondary facility; govern multi-year facility master plans, preventive/predictive maintenance, and business-continuity planning.
- Real Estate – Establish and oversee lease administration. Portfolio management and reporting. Partner with brokers to define & execute new transactions. External stakeholder management.
- EH&S Leadership — Own executive-level accountability for OSHA, EPA, and MPCA compliance; champion a 100% Safe safety culture; lead programs covering LOTO, Haz Com, confined space, and environmental controls specific to print manufacturing (VOC/HAP emissions, ink/solvent management, SWPPP, waste).
- Global Physical Security — Build and execute a global security strategy spanning access control, CCTV, guard force management, and threat/vulnerability assessments; establish duty-of-care programs including travel security and 24/7 crisis communication.
- Capital Projects & Continuous Improvement — Lead multi-year capital plans and complex projects from concept to commissioning; apply Lean methodologies to drive uptime and efficiency.
- Vendor & Regulatory Management — Govern a global vendor framework across facilities, environmental, and security providers; cultivate relationships with regulators, insurers, and industry associations.
- People Leadership — Coach leaders and a multi-disciplinary team of technicians, engineers, and EH&S professionals across multiple shifts; build depth through succession planning and talent development.
- Financial Stewardship — Own operating and capital budgets across Facilities, Maintenance, and EH&S; report performance to the VP of Operations and executive leadership.
You're a fit for the role of Director, Facilities & Real Estate, EH&S & Physical Security if your background includes:
- 15+ years of progressive experience in facilities, EH&S, and/or physical security within large-scale manufacturing
- 8+ years in senior leadership with multi-disciplinary teams, capital budgets exceeding $1M, and multi- disciplinary teams, capital budgets exceeding $1M, and multi-site/global scope
- Proven leadership in 24/5 or 24/7 environments with 500+ employees in a 500,000+ sq ft facility
- Track record managing complex capital projects from concept through commissioning
- Experience designing physical security programs across international jurisdictions, ideally including Latin America
- Demonstrated duty-of-care experience for international or remote/hybrid employees
- Measurable EH&S performance improvement (OSHA recordable/DART rate reduction)
- Print, binding, fulfillment, or converting operations experience strongly preferred
Domestic and international travel, up to 10%.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, or related field. MBA or M.S. strongly preferred.
