What To ExpectAs a Painter at Caterpillar you will prepare materials prior to paint application, apply prime paint and topcoat to components and machinery to obtain a high‑quality finish consistent with company standards. Bring your industrial or commercial paint booth, spray gun—automotive or other coating and finishing industrial application experience to Caterpillar today.
Pay Rate And ScheduleThe position includes a wage of $26.98 per hour (this includes a base wage of $25.73 plus an additional $1.25 per hour shift differential) and a comprehensive day‑one benefits program with on‑site health and wellness. Openings are available for the 3rd shift:
Sunday – Thursday, 10:00 p.m. – 06:00 a.m. Overtime opportunities may be available on a voluntary basis based on business needs with prior authorization from leadership.
- Experience in equipment/automotive paint processing, booth/spray paint process, or a paint‑related certificate or certified trade school/technical degree in a paint‑related field
- Experience in top coat, prime coat and electrostatic paint or a similar process
- Previous Caterpillar paving painting experience
- Knowledge of paint properties
- Knowledge of Caterpillar standards for paint quality (1E 2001 specs for paint)
- Ability to read blueprints/engineering drawings
- Leadership experience
- Heavy crane equipment experience
- Ability to read standard work and write continuous improvement cards
- Understanding of Lean Manufacturing Principles
- Ability to utilize computer for production transactions, standard work updates and various projects
- Experience using paint tools including cup paint gun, sanders and buffers
Responsible for putting safety first with a goal to prevent all injuries, occupational illnesses and safety incidents. Sand, mask, wash, paint and touch‑up components and machines according to blueprint and engineering drawings. Electronically and manually maintain documentation for labor hour records, work order processing, and production documentation (serial number reporting, material transfer records, defective materials reports, etc.). Perform activities related to hazardous waste handling.
Prioritize work to meet production schedules. Take initiative to identify, document, communicate and correct problems related to paint, report discrepancies and recommend solutions. Identify and relay information for correction on discrepancies in affected assembly processes, safety, quality and production issues. Support PQVC initiatives and daily activities. Work and interact effectively in a team environment in alignment with our Code of Conduct and Values in Action.
Complete other projects as needed. Work with limited supervision.

Physical Requirements Detail
Exposure to paint fumes, catalyst fumes, isopropanol fumes and wash fumes. Exposure to wash, paint application and clean‑up chemicals. Noise levels of 85 db or greater. Operate overhead cranes, jib cranes and hoists. Lift up to 35 lbs frequently. Work at multiple heights. Climb on equipment, machines, ladders, man lifts and various step stools. Stand for a minimum of eight hour shifts with minimal breaks.
