Responsibilities
  • Manage the care of patients experiencing psychiatric/mental health disorders in adult and youth Partial Hospital Programs, inpatient units, and clinics.
  • Provide care in a non‑judgmental, non‑discriminatory manner that respects patients’ developmental age and the diversity of their families.
  • Administer medications, refills, and long‑acting injections accurately, verify allergies and contraindications, and monitor for side effects.
  • Perform medication refills and educate patients and families about medications.
  • Execute physician‑ordered interventions promptly, including lab draws, EKG, UDS, Genesight, and HcG testing, and document results.
  • Manage patient care in person and over the phone using psychosocial, physical, and behavioral assessments; triage TMS patients in the clinic.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient and family information.
  • Ensure a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following established standards and procedures.
  • Track and communicate pertinent medical and psychiatric information verbally and through written documentation in the EHR.
  • Communicate effectively with interdisciplinary team members, collaborate, seek timely advice, and provide constructive feedback.
  • Assist with scheduling clinic appointments, completing referrals, and obtaining insurance pre‑authorizations.
  • Perform nursing assessment at admission and discharge planning for the Partial Hospital Program.
  • Apply therapeutic approaches to reduce restraints and seclusion whenever possible.
  • Plan and facilitate nursing groups with patients during partial hospital and inpatient settings.
  • Lead and delegate tasks to Psychiatric Technicians, Licensed Practical Nurses, and Certified Medical Assistants within scope of practice.
  • Maintain current competency in child/adolescent psychiatric/mental health nursing, including safe use of restraints and effective de‑escalation techniques.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing school; nursing degree required. BSN preferred.
  • Current licensure as an RN with the Minnesota State Board of Nursing.
  • Evidence of 1 year of psychiatric/mental health nursing experience within the past two years is preferred.
  • Professional certifications such as RN ANCC Certification in Mental Health Nursing, Pediatric Nursing, or Holistic Health are a plus.
  • Strong critical thinking skills and the ability to problem‑solve effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills for making safe judgment calls in stressful situations, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to multi‑task, manage time efficiently, and prioritize tasks appropriately.
  • Flexibility to provide remote coverage for clinics and float across all Prairie Care facilities.
  • Crisis intervention skills, including de‑escalation techniques and safety planning.
  • Interpersonal skills, maintaining confidentiality, openness to new ideas, and willingness to try new approaches.
  • Basic computer skills using Microsoft Office products and the EHR system.
  • Pay range for this position is $38,000 to $51,000, adjusted for education, experience, internal equity, and market conditions.
