Nurse Practitioner = Transplant & Acute Care – Houston Methodist Hospital
As a Nurse Practitioner – Acute Care (NP‑AC), you will function as a licensed registered nurse and provide comprehensive patient care in both inpatient and outpatient settings, in accordance with the Texas Nurse Practice Act and Houston Methodist’s Professional Practice Model. You will triage, diagnose, treat, and consult patients, manage care plans, and collaborate with the interprofessional health‑care team.
Responsibilities- Conduct physical assessments, order diagnostic tests, and prescribe medications as appropriate.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans for transplant and acute‑care patients.
- Facilitate interprofessional rounds and coordinate patient care across providers.
- Act as a clinical resource, mentor staff, and serve as a preceptor for NP students and residents.
- Promote patient safety and quality improvement by participating in protocol development, monitoring outcomes, and implementing best practices.
- Assist in attaining financial targets through effective documentation, reducing length of stay, and optimizing care efficiency.
- Engage in research, evidence‑based practice, and knowledge dissemination to enhance patient care.
- Maintain open, compassionate communication with patients, families, physicians, and team members.
- Adapt to changing patient needs, performing critical thinking and clinical judgment to provide autonomous care.
- Handle on‑call responsibilities and occasional travel within the Houston Metropolitan area.
- Master’s degree or higher from an accredited nursing school and graduate from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
- Minimum of two years of registered nurse, advanced practice or nurse practitioner clinical experience.
- Texas State Registered Nurse license within 60 days of establishing residency, APRN Acute Care state license, and Magnet ANCC‑recognized Acute‑Care practitioner certification.
- BLS and ACLS certifications (or instructor qualifications) and Prescriptive Authority from the Texas Board of Nursing.
- DEA Narcotics License within six months of hire.
- Proficiency in English (speaking, reading, writing) required for patient safety functions.
- Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and communication skills.

May require travel within the Houston Metropolitan area. - Work attire:
Scrubs, business professional, or other department‑approved clothing.
