Job Overview
Fast & Fresh Clerk – a role responsible for providing prompt, efficient and friendly customer service in the Fast & Fresh department, operating the cash register, maintaining store cleanliness, and assisting customers with product location and purchase.
Responsibilities- Provide friendly customer service and greet customers, learning and using their names whenever possible.
- Assist customers in locating products, escorting them to items, securing items that are out of reach, and handling heavy or large items.
- Use the telephone to answer calls promptly and provide helpful service.
- Operate the cash register accurately, scan products, handle payments (cash, checks, credit cards, in‑store charges, promotional coupons, food stamps), and issue receipts.
- Manage cash drawer, report improper cash levels, and count change.
- Place merchandise in bags or boxes, and give packages to customers.
- Assist with department inventory: receive and check in delivered merchandise, store in appropriate areas, fill displays, and stock shelves.
- Maintain store appearance: clean and organize the work area, including registers, restrooms, break room, backroom, floor sweep and mop, and supply stations.
- Keep the lot and walkway clear: shovel snow, spread ice melt, hose down the lot, refill outside towel holders and window‑washer fluid.
- Remove trash inside and outside promptly.
- Check in products, put away merchandise, and review invoices.
- Follow proper sanitation procedures and adhere to personal hygiene and dress guidelines.
- Perform other job‑related duties and special projects as required.
- Ability to solve practical problems and follow instructions with limited standardization.
- Basic arithmetic skills (fractions, decimals, percentages).
- Ability to file, post, mail materials, copy data, interview for basic information, guide people, and provide basic direction.
- No mandatory education or experience requirements.
Must be able to perform medium work: exert up to 50lb occasionally, 20lb frequently, and 10lb constantly. Must be able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, reach, stand, walk, pull, lift, grasp, feel, talk, hear, and perform repetitive motions.
Visual requirements include vision from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet, with or without correction, depth perception, color vision, and field of vision.
Working ConditionsFrequent exposure to temperature extremes, dampness, possible equipment movement hazards, electrical shock, and exposure to cleaning chemicals and solvents. Fast‑paced work environment.
Equipment UsedTelephone, fax, copier, pallet jacks, garbage disposal, trash compactor, cardboard compactor, box cutter, knives, computer, calculator, frozen juice machine, coffee maker, cash register, RPM, gas pumps.
ContactDaily contact with customers, co‑workers, suppliers/vendors, and the general public.
Compensation and BenefitsAnticipated hourly starting wage: $17.00–$21.25 depending on experience.
