Job DescriptionAs a Delicatessen Clerk, this position will be responsible for handling food in a safe manner and ensuring the work area is always clean and neat. The role involves running department registers, receiving payments, making change, and providing courteous, friendly, and efficient customer service to customers and team members.

- Smile and greet customers; learn and use customer names whenever possible.
- Assist customers by escorting them to products, carrying heavy items, noting and passing along suggestions, and performing additional tasks to enhance the shopping experience.
- Answer the telephone promptly and provide helpful service, including taking customer orders.
- Takes customer orders at the delicatessen counter and reviews orders for the day.
- Maintain proper sanitation procedures and keep the work area clean and neat.
- Check the status and appearance of food for freshness, ensure an adequate food supply, and prepare, finish, and replenish products as needed.
- Run the department registers, receive payment, make change, and remove trash in a timely manner.
- Adhere to department and company guidelines related to personal hygiene, dress, and company policies.
- Report to work when scheduled and on time.
- Wash dishes as necessary.
- Order product and supplies as needed.
- Deliver orders as needed.
- Price products for customers as needed.
- Assist in other areas of store as needed.
- Perform other job‑related duties and special projects as required.
- Understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions; write identifying information; request supplies orally or in writing.
- Perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
Less than high school or equivalent experience and six months or less of similar or related work experience.
Physical Requirements- Perform medium work with up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 20 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly.
- Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
- Visual requirements: clarity of vision at a distance of more than 20 inches and less than 20 feet with or without correction, color vision, depth perception, and field of vision.
Exposure to dust, noise, equipment movement hazards, electrical shock, temperature extremes, and cleaning chemicals/solvents. Fast‑paced work environment.
Equipment Used to Perform Job- Telephone, fax, copier, intercom system, computer, calculator, kitchen utensils, hot wrapping machine, garbage disposal, trash compactor, cardboard compactor, box cutter, slicer, scales, delivery van, pallet jack, hot wrapper, and knives.
Daily contact with the general public and customers; contact with federal/state governmental or regulatory agencies regarding inspections.
CompensationHourly starting wage of $16.50 to $20.60 depending on experience.
Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre‑employment drug screen.
