Job DescriptionUnder general supervision and following established procedures, the Maintenance Mechanic I is responsible for performing routine maintenance tasks for the Plant Operations facility and for Administrative Offices facility. Typical duties will include, but are not necessarily limited to: assist Maintenance Mechanic II & III in troubleshooting and repairing electrical problems, troubleshooting and resolving semi‑routine and complex plant machinery mechanical malfunctions, repairing problems related to hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, and providing assistance for office moves, adds and changes as necessary.
All job responsibilities are to be performed in strict adherence with the Company’s Mission/Values Statement and in accordance with established standards for external customers as well as internal customers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING. OTHER DUTIES MAY BE ASSIGNED.
- Performs routine maintenance on all machines by cleaning and lubricating shafts, bearings, gears and other parts of the machinery.
- Assists with troubleshooting and repairs of mechanical breakdowns related to plant operations machinery and related equipment. Assists with repairs related to hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.
- Assists with troubleshooting and repairs of electrical outages related to plant operations equipment and office electrical needs.
- Performs basic plumbing repair as required; including plugged sewer lines and minor sewer repair.
- Performs welding repair as required on plant operations machinery and related equipment.
- Assists Maintenance Mechanic II & III in general repair, alteration, small‑scale new construction and preventative maintenance work.
- Shovels snow and operates snow blower equipment as required.
- Visually inspects and tests machinery and equipment.
- Follows safe operating procedures and all safety rules in accordance with Company policy and in accordance with OSHA rules and regulations.
- Keeps maintenance area neat, clean and orderly; cleans up after completing maintenance work throughout the plant.
- Monitors unusual sounds from machines or equipment to detect malfunctions and discuss machine operation variations with Supervisors or other Maintenance Workers to diagnose problem or repair machine.
- Dismantles defective machines and equipment.
- Inspects and measures machine parts to detect wear, misalignment, dimensional requirements or other problems.
- Removes, repairs and replaces worn or defective parts, mechanisms and systems.
- Realigns and adjusts functional parts, components, devices and control adjustments.
- Starts machines and equipment to test operation following repair.
- Assists with the installation and repairs of electrical apparatus, such as wiring, and electrical components of machinery and equipment.
- Repairs and maintains the facilities (inside and outside of building).
- Assists with the set up and operates machine tools such as lathe, grinder, drill and milling machine to repair or fabricate machine parts, jigs, fixtures and tools.
- Fabricates and repairs counters, benches, partitions, and other fixtures or structures.
- Participates in periodic staff meetings as required.
- Participates and is certified as a member of the First Responders Committee.
- Participates and is certified as a member of the HAZ‑MAT team.
- Performs overtime work and on‑call support work as required of the position.
- Participates in training and development programs as required of the position.
- Performs a variety of miscellaneous job‑related tasks as may be assigned from time‑to‑time by a Management Representative.
