Role OverviewThe Senior Engineering Manager (SEM) leads a team of engineers building innovative and cutting‑edge solutions. The SEM drives product development and operations, manages the team’s technical direction, and writes production code. The role includes managing infrastructure decisions, resolving technology roadblocks, and ensuring adherence to development and security standards. The SEM works closely with product teams to drive the product roadmap and influences stakeholder communication.
Key Responsibilities- Drive product development and operations with lead engineers and drive technical decision‑making, adhering to Target platform architecture and other enterprise decisions.
- Focus on team management and development while actively writing production code.
- Assist in defining infrastructure needs and manage resolution of technology roadblocks including code, infrastructure, build and deployment.
- Establish stakeholder communication and influence the product roadmap.
- Build and manage a high‑performing full‑stack engineering team, providing leadership, coaching, motivation, staffing, and performance management.
- Provide career development opportunities for engineers at all experience levels.
- 4‑year degree in computer science or equivalent experience.
- 7+ years of software engineering experience.
- 1‑3 years of managing engineering teams with a strong track record of delivery for cross‑functional product experiences involving cloud hosting.
- Proficient in Kubernetes as a platform.
- Proficient in building high‑performing APIs and writing specifications.
- Expertise using Golang, Java/Kotlin/JVM, or equivalent programming languages.
- Experience with integration, data handling technologies, and open‑source frameworks.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to present complex technical information clearly.
- Team‑orientated, passionate about developing others’ skills and capabilities.
- Successful track record leading complex technology teams in large enterprise ecosystems.
- Deep understanding of agile development processes, continuous integration and delivery, and incremental delivery of business value.
This position will operate as a Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement based on Target’s needs. The role may require onsite work at the Target HQ in the Minnesota location and virtual work as required.
