Job Summary:
The Lead Driver/Scheduler serves as a liaison between the transportation department, administration, drivers, and school staff to help ensure safe, efficient, and organized transportation services for Mountain Iron-Buhl Schools. This position coordinates regular bus routes, extra trips, driver communication, and transportation records while also performing all essential functions of a regular route bus driver.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Schedule and coordinate regular bus routes through the district transportation system, including communicating route changes and updates to drivers throughout the school year.
- Schedule and coordinate extracurricular and special event bus trips while maintaining a master transportation schedule with the school office.
- Assist with daily transportation operations, staffing, troubleshooting, and route coverage as needed.
- Report emergencies, delays, damages, accidents, behavioral concerns, or incidents to the Transportation Director and administration.
- Collect and submit monthly mileage reports, trip reports, and transportation documentation to the Business Office.
- Assist administration and drivers with student discipline concerns, parent communication, and transportation-related issues.
- Coordinate annual bus evacuation drills and required transportation safety training in compliance with Minnesota State requirements.
- Ensure compliance with student safety, confidentiality, FERPA, and mandated reporting requirements.
- Maintain communication with drivers, school staff, administration, and families regarding transportation needs and concerns.
- Support transportation safety procedures and emergency response protocols.
- Assist with maintaining transportation records, schedules, and documentation.
- Operate school buses and district vehicles as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or Transportation Director.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position does not formally supervise employees but serves as a lead support and liaison for transportation staff and administration.
Work is performed in a school setting, transportation office environment, outdoors, and in district vehicles or buses. Position may require flexible hours depending on transportation and activity schedules.
Required
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum of 3 years of school bus driving experience preferred
- Previous transportation coordination or scheduling experience preferred
Pre-Employment Requirements:
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
- Successful completion of background check
- Successful completion of MNDOT physical
- Successful completion of pre-employment drug and alcohol testing
- Valid Minnesota Driver's License
- Valid School Bus Endorsement
- Must meet all MNDOT requirements for school bus drivers, including age requirements
