Position: Dentist (40 Hour)

Facilities Overview

All facilities are level 3 medium‑security correctional institutions that emphasize educational, vocational, and rehabilitation programming to support successful reentry.

Duties
  • Provide preventive dental maintenance and acute dental care: oral examinations, diagnoses, operative and prosthetic dentistry, exodontia, periodontia, radiology, and prophylaxis.
  • Consult with physicians to aid in medical diagnoses by investigating possible foci of dental and oral infections.
  • Request laboratory tests and X‑rays; administer drugs; respond to dental emergencies; educate clients and staff about oral health and dental services offered by the facility.
  • May participate in instruction of dental residents and dental assistant students.
  • Perform related duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Licensed as a dentist issued by the Connecticut Department of Public Health.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of dental operative techniques and dental surgery.
  • Skilled interpersonal, oral, and written communication abilities.
  • Ability to lift and restrain clients; exposure to communicable diseases and risk of injury from assaultive clients.
