Accounting Specialist

Location:

Brooklyn, NY

Pay: 24-28/hr

Hours:

35 hours per week

Schedule:

Fully in-office

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage student account billing and collections activities, ensuring timely invoicing, payment processing, and follow-up on outstanding balances.
  • Review account balances, investigate discrepancies, and work directly with students and internal departments to resolve billing and payment issues.
  • Monitor aging reports and conduct collection outreach through phone, email, and written correspondence to reduce delinquent accounts.
  • Maintain accurate account records, process adjustments and payment plans, and ensure compliance with institutional policies and procedures.
  • Prepare account reconciliations, generate reports on collections activity and outstanding receivables, and assist with month-end and year-end account reviews.
Requirements:
  • 1–3 years of experience in Accounts Receivable, Billing, Collections, or a related accounting/customer accounts role.
  • Associate degree preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and data analysis functions.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to accurately reconcile accounts and resolve billing discrepancies.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and customer service skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
