Schedule:
Monday - Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Pay Rate: $35.00 - $43.00 per hour, based on experience
Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Accountant to provide temporary accounting support within the Office of the Comptroller. This seven-month contract role is designed to support critical day-to-day accounting operations during a period of system implementation and staffing resource constraints. The ideal candidate will possess strong accounting knowledge, excellent analytical skills, and advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency.
This position plays a key role in maintaining the accuracy of financial records, supporting investment accounting activities, preparing reconciliations, assisting with financial reporting, and providing audit support.
Key Responsibilities
Record investment transactions into investment accounting software and reconcile activity to investment advisor and custodian statements.
Prepare monthly and quarterly journal entries for posting to the general ledger.
Perform account analyses and reconciliations to ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial data.
Assist with the preparation of financial statements and supporting Excel schedules related to foundation investments.
Maintain transaction templates to facilitate year-end uploads and reporting processes.
Support quarterly reconciliations across multiple entities.
Maintain and update accounting office spreadsheets and financial tracking reports.
Review financial transactions for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established accounting procedures.
Assist with audit preparation by gathering supporting documentation and responding to auditor requests.
Support reporting requirements and other accounting-related operational activities as assigned.
Collaborate with internal departments to ensure timely completion of accounting tasks and financial reporting deadlines.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
Minimum of 2-4 years of professional accounting experience, preferably in public sector, nonprofit, investment, or corporate accounting.
Experience preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reports.
Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Experience with investment accounting or financial asset reconciliation is highly desirable.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, and financial schedules.
Experience working with accounting and general ledger systems; investment accounting software experience is a plus.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Skills
Experience supporting financial audits and preparing audit documentation.
Ability to reconcile complex financial accounts accurately and efficiently.
Familiarity with multi-entity accounting environments.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with accounting and finance teams.
High level of integrity and commitment to maintaining confidential financial information.
