As a Special Needs after school counselor, you will be responsible for providing support, guidance, and a safe environment for children with developmental disabilities during the after-school hours. Your primary goal is to facilitate their social, emotional, and cognitive development through various activities while ensuring a positive inclusive experience.

Responsibilities of the counselor include but are not limited to:

* Counselors are responsible for 1-2 children on a daily basis.

* Counselors must ensure the children's safety, manage children's behavior, and act as a role model and mentor.

* Model constructive participation in all daily activities.

* Work closely with the senior counselors to ensure safety of all children.

* Counselors must be at least 17 years of age.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

* Language skills: ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisor, senior counselors, co-workers, and parents.

Additional Skills and Responsibilities:

* Lead by example: be a role model for campers and interns.

* Ability and willingness to work as a "team"

* Organized and possess excellent interpersonal communication skills.

* Enthusiastic and high energy.

* Willing to follow directions and take initiative.

* Flexible and able to adjust tasks in accordance with changing priorities.

* Show empathy and compassion to every student.

* Exhibit patience.

* Have the interest to learn about the individual needs of each child.

* Maintain a clean work environment.

* Assist students with homework.

* Assist students during bathroom breaks.

Physical Requirements:

* Ability to recognize and respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency situation.

* Ability to adequately observe participant activities, enforce safety regulations, and apply appropriate policies and procedures.

* Ability to work both indoors and outdoors, different temperature extremes, and be physically able to take children to indoor and outdoor activities and engage with them.

* Required to stand, walk, kneel, or crouch. Additionally, employee may also climb, push, pull, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.

* Ability to get into the swimming pool during pool hours (for the camp season).
