Job Description & How to Apply Below
We're Hiring:
Technical Director, Live Events, New York.
Make the extraordinary, everlasting - with us.
At EC, we craft extraordinary experiences that leave a lasting impression - not just for our clients, but for our people too. We blend the big ideas of a creative agency with the meticulous execution of a production company, bringing bold, imaginative events to life.
We're collaborative, down-to-earth, and serious about delivering quality - all while finding time for lightness and fun. If you're someone who's curious, adaptable and excited to do meaningful work with a team that's got your back, we'd love to hear from you.
About the Role
We're looking for a Technical Director to join our New York team and lead the technical delivery of high-impact live events. This is a chance to shape bold ideas into seamless experiences - working with global brands, inspiring teams, and pushing creative boundaries.
You'll be part of a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team that thrives on innovation and excellence. From concept to execution, you'll be the technical heartbeat of our projects - solving problems, guiding teams, and making magic happen.
If you love the thrill of live production, have a sharp technical mind, and want to be part of a company that's redefining how brands show up in the world, we'd love to meet you.
Key Objectives:
- Lead the technical planning and execution of live events, including conferences and brand experiences, across the US and globally.
- Translate creative concepts into technically sound, scalable solutions.
- Manage budgets, timelines, suppliers and crew to deliver flawless events.
- Be a trusted technical voice in client conversations, offering guidance and reassurance.
- Champion sustainability, inclusion and innovation in every aspect of production.
- You're a confident, experienced technical director who thrives in fast-paced environments and knows how to get things done. You're a natural collaborator, a clear communicator, and a calm presence under pressure.
- You have hands-on experience across key disciplines - lighting, audio, video, rigging, scenic, and power distribution.
- You're comfortable managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders.
- You're fluent in CAD software (Vectorworks or similar) and project management tools.
- You're confident leading technical conversations with clients and internal teams.
- You care about the details but never lose sight of the big picture.
- You're passionate about creating inclusive, sustainable experiences that make a difference.
Project Leadership
- Own the technical delivery of events from brief to reconciliation.
- Attend client meetings, challenge briefs, and shape technical responses.
- Collaborate with client services, producers, creative and production teams to develop concepts and execution plans.
- Scope and specify technical requirements for each event.
- Work with external suppliers to source equipment and crew.
- Create and manage project documentation - including CAD drawings, schedules, and budgets.
- Manage local health and safety requirements and legislation to the highest on-site standard.
- Lead technical setup and show management onsite.
- Liaise with venues, suppliers and clients to ensure smooth delivery.
- Troubleshoot issues and adapt plans in real time.
- Manage a safe site, ensuring that all contractors conform with local legislation and EC safe working practices.
- Work closely with production and client services teams to ensure profitability and client satisfaction.
- Lean into your network to help build out our black book of freelancers and suppliers.
- Contribute to a culture of excellence, creativity and inclusion.
- Support EC's sustainability goals through thoughtful planning and delivery.
Our New York team is quite new, and you'll be joining the business at an exciting time on our global growth journey. We're looking for someone who will grow with us.
You'll have opportunities to work with some exceptional people. While EC may not be a recognized name on the New York event scene right now, in London, we are one of the best at what we do, and we're looking to bring that magic to our New York base.
We're culture-focused, and we'll want to integrate you with our UK team, so we will fly you to the UK for key social events to ensure you have time to spend with our team.
At EC, we're a team of doers, dreamers, and down-to-earth collaborators. We thrive on creativity, care deeply about the details, and always have each other's backs. With hybrid working, generous time off, wellbeing support, and a culture that champions your voice, your growth, and your whole self - it's more than just a job. It's a place to thrive.
