Field Lead
Field Leads (multiple positions available) — NY State Assembly Campaign
Based in Southern Brooklyn (from Bay Ridge to Coney Island)
The Field Leads' key responsibilities will be to bottom-line recurring canvass shifts (door-knocking, and, during Early Voting and Election Day, poll-site and street visibility): assisting with recruiting volunteers; managing RSVPs and confirmations; handling materials; greeting, training, launching, and debriefing — and re-shifting — canvassers; reporting back to the campaign. You will be the first point of contact for volunteers and thus will be responsible for accurately and persuasively representing the campaign and candidate to voters.
Other responsibilities include:
- On days the campaign may not have a group canvass, you and any other Field Lead(s) will go knock doors
- Assisting with volunteer days of action with local community groups, clubs, labor unions, and other supportive organizations
- Be an "on site" supervisor for paid canvassers
- Meeting and exceeding benchmarks for voter contact, volunteer recruitment, and GOTV efforts
Compensation:
- $20 / hour — see below for schedule, but 18 hrs / week until Early Voting
Duration:
- May 26th - June 23rd
Preferred Qualifications / Experience:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational skills: ability to prioritize in planning multiple events
- At least one cycle of canvassing experience, preferably as a Field Lead, for a local candidate
- Possess or have the ability to learn a basic-level understanding of electoral tools (Solidarity Tech, REACH, Mini Van)
- Ability to consistently welcome, empower, and develop volunteers with a cheerful and confident manner — patience and flexibility in working with people from diverse backgrounds
- Fluency in Arabic, Cantonese or Mandarin, Russian, or Spanish is ideal but not required
Expectations:
- Until individual neighborhoods have established leads, Field Leads will meet at the campaign headquarters in Bay Ridge
- Hours below account for brief communication / report back with the Campaign after volunteer shifts are over, for tallies and any needed information
- These roles require frequent need to be on your feet, including standing during canvass trainings, and going door-knocking yourself, i.e. climbing stairs repeatedly
- Ideal schedule would be:
- Tuesday through Thursday (heaviest persuasion canvassing: consistent knocking in multiple parts of the district): 5pm - 9pm
- Fridays (lightest, office-based: phone banking, planning for weekend, etc.): 2p - 6pm
- Saturdays: 11am - 4pm
- Sundays: 11am - 4pm
- Mondays off before June 15th (Early Voting, then the day before Election Day)
