ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Provide instruction to students enrolled in English for Speakers of Other Language (ESOL) classes and/or Adult Basic Education (ABE)/ Spanish High School Equivalency (HSE) classes on an as-needed basis;
* Deliver prepared lesson plans and/or adapt existing curriculum to meet student needs during assigned shifts;
* Incorporate computer-based or online learning activities into instruction when applicable;
* Maintain basic documentation of student attendance and participation for assigned sessions;
* Administer informal assessments or support ongoing student evaluation as directed by program staff;
* Communicate relevant student progress, needs, or concerns to the Program Coordinator of designee;
* Refer students to internal support services as appropriate
* Coordinate with Program Coordinator and instructional team to ensure continuity of instruction;
* Participate in periodic check-ins as needed;
* Attend trainings and staff meetings as available and relevant to scheduled work hours;
* Perform other related duties as assigned within the scope of per-diem work.
COMPETENCIES
* Two years teaching experience in ESOL and/or ABE/HSE preferred;
* Experience delivering or adapting lesson plans in a classroom setting;
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
* Ability to create an engaging, inclusive, and supportive learning environment;
* Flexibility and responsiveness in a dynamic classroom setting;
* Willing to go above and beyond program mandates for the benefit of the students;
* Ability to understand the concepts of institutional and structural racism and bias and their impact on underserved and underrepresented communities;
* Have a demonstrated commitment to supporting communities who have experienced systemic oppression and bias (e.g. people of color, LGBTQ+ people, immigrants, justice involved persons, etc.);
* Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred or required - dependent upon program needs.
EDUCATION EXPERIENCE
Must possess a Bachelor's degree in related field; license to teach with the NYC Department of Education preferred
