Postsecondary Planning & Career Pathways Teacher

School Year ;
Bushwick, Brooklyn

Full-Time / On-Site

Math, Engineering, and Science Academy (MESA) Charter High School is a community high school in Bushwick, Brooklyn. We opened our doors in August 2013 and we now have 498 students in grades 9-12. We graduated our first class of seniors in June 2017 and our cumulative graduation rate is 94%. Our students come from more than forty different middle schools, including traditional public, parochial, and public charter schools.

Some are advanced students coming from magnet schools; others are beginning English Language Learners. What they all have in common is a desire to succeed; MESA students come to school every day, ready to work. Over 90% of our students graduate each year, many as first-generation college-goers. We are committed to their success not only through graduation, but beyond.

The Postsecondary Planning & Career Pathways Teacher inspires students to dream big and plan ahead for their future. By teaching a trimester-based Career & College Readiness course to grades 9–11. You'll design and facilitate lessons and experiences that help students explore careers, understand their strengths and interests, and connect those to career pathways that are both personally meaningful and financially sustainable.

This role serves as a central connector within the school's broader college and career readiness strategy. You'll help coordinate workplace visits and other experiential learning opportunities that build students' job readiness skills and help them envision and get excited about their future plans.

You will collaborate closely with the Internship Program and Industry Partner Manager to connect students with internships, leadership opportunities, and enrichment programs, including college prep and study abroad opportunities that extend learning beyond the classroom. Working in partnership with advisors, counselors, and families, you will ensure every student has a clear, supported plan for their next step after high school. This position works with the Humanities Department and MESA's Department of College and Career Counseling.
