Education Director

The Education Director is responsible for the early childhood education functions of the organization. The position sets the educational approach of the program and ensures implementation of the selected evidenced-based curriculum to fidelity, as well as effective implementation of a system for ongoing child assessment designed to promote children's development and learning. The position works with the HS Management Team to establish School Readiness Goals and monitors and supports progress towards goals to ensure the program's effectiveness in achieving its School Readiness Goals.

The Education Director ensures the early childhood learning services are supported by staff/consultants with training and experience in areas that include the theories and principles of child growth and development, early childhood education and family support. The Education Director ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including the Head Start Program Performance Standards, the Head Start Act, the NYC Department of Health, and NYC Department of Education regulations, as well as all BSECDC policies and procedures.

Essential duties and responsibilities include providing leadership, support, and supervision to Education Site Managers and Coaches; collaborating with the ESMs and HS Management Team to develop the policies, procedures, and written plans for educational services; monitoring compliance with work plans, Head Start Program Performance Standards, and other regulations; developing ongoing monitoring plan for continuous improvement and evaluation. The position also involves promoting cultural competence and universal values of respect, compassion, and tolerance among staff and children by ensuring the curriculum implementation includes global education, multiculturalism, and peaceful classroom concepts;

developing School Readiness Goals in collaboration with coaches, members of the Management Team, parents, and program staff; overseeing implementation of the School Readiness Goals and making revisions as necessary; monitoring child outcomes data for completion and quality by aggregating and disaggregating assessment data and analyzing results and developing plans in response to support children's progress towards child outcomes and school readiness goals;

assisting teaching staff in understanding and interpreting child outcomes data and establishing appropriate individual child and aggregate classroom goals; providing child outcomes reports to the Executive Director, Board, and Policy Council; collaborating with the Family Services Coordinator and ESMs to ensure parent involvement in education services; developing a system for regular classroom observations using valid and reliable instruments such as the CLASS, ECERS-R, and Creative Curriculum Fidelity tools;

analyzing results of data to inform service area plans, curriculum strategies, continuous program improvement, training, professional development, and coaching of teaching staff; assisting individual staff members in identifying their training needs and improving their knowledge and abilities; overseeing the implementation of professional development plans and ensuring their proper alignment with the results of child outcomes data; working cooperatively with other service area managers;

integrating with all comprehensive services provided to children; acting as education point of contact and representing BSECDC at meetings and local community events; monitoring the education services budget; supporting the use of technology and data management systems by staff to promote efficiency, reliability, and accuracy in data analysis and reporting; providing monthly reflective supervision for all supervises; completing annual performance evaluations for all supervises, including establishing and monitoring goals for performance improvement and/or professional development and corrective action plans, if needed;

participating in all Management Team Meetings and Education Team meetings, including internal School Readiness Committee meetings and external meetings at the Administration for Children and Families'…
