Description

Founded in 1965, the Chinese-American Planning Council (CPC) is a social services organization advancing the social and economic well-being of immigrant and low-income New Yorkers through holistic services and community-led impact. CPC is the nation's largest Asian American social services organization and serves as a trusted community anchor to over 80,000 community members who are served by CPC annually through 50+ high-quality programs and services across 35 sites in New York City.

Department of Youth & Community Development/Comprehensive After School System (DYCD/COMPASS) contracts with the Chinese-American Planning Council to provide youth after school services to school-age children ages 5-12 years old. COMPASS seeks to promote positive youth development, foster social and emotional skills, and encourage youth leadership through engaging activities that incorporate hands-on learning in safe, welcoming environments. The program includes academic support, physical exercise, and enrichment age-appropriate activities such as literacy or STEM to enhance the academic, social, and physical development of children during the after-school hours, on certain evenings, weekends, and school holidays.

Reporting to the Program Director, Site Supervisors support program operations by supervising staff, overseeing daily activities, and ensuring smooth day-to-day functions. Site Supervisors also fulfill Group Leader responsibilities as needed, including working directly with children in the classroom. Candidates should demonstrate a growth mindset, showing openness to learning, feedback, and continuous professional development.

Supervisor Responsibilities:

  • Support the Program Director by supervising Activity Specialists, Group Leaders, Youth Counselors, and Volunteers in the implementation of the after school program.
  • Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of all program participants by providing active supervision of activities.
  • Promote an inclusive, welcoming, and respectful environment that embraces the diversity of participants and staff.
  • Maintain accurate and timely program documentation, including participant files, data entry (DYCD Connect), attendance records, sign-in/out forms, behavior and incident reports, as appropriate.
  • Collaborate effectively with school administration, teachers, program staff, and CPC leadership to ensure alignment and support for program goals.
  • Foster a strength-based, youth-focused atmosphere that is consistent and sensitive to the needs of participants with learning, emotional, or behavioral differences.
  • Assist in creating marketing materials, such as flyers, to promote program awareness and support enrollment efforts.
  • Serve as a positive role model to children, staff, and families.
  • Work with the Program Director to ensure all necessary equipment and supplies are secured and maintained.
  • Understand, communicate, and uphold CPC's core values and the goals of the School-Age Child Care (SACC) program to all participants and caregivers.
  • Actively participate in all required trainings, meetings, and special events.
  • Adhere to all program policies, procedures, and regulations established by DOHMH, DYCD, and CPC.

Group Leader Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement lesson plans that are developmentally appropriate, aligned with DYCD goals, and designed to promote academic, recreational, and social-emotional learning.
  • Facilitate daily activities in core subjects such as Math and Literacy, as well as Science, Social Studies, and cultural enrichment.
  • Ensure all activities are age-appropriate, safe, and supportive of children's development.
  • Maintain active supervision of children at all times to ensure a safe and supportive environment; respond appropriately to behavioral concerns and medical needs.
  • Document student attendance, behavior incidents, and classroom observations in accordance with CPC policies and program requirements.
  • Foster a respectful, inclusive, and collaborative classroom culture that reflects CPC's values and supports youth development.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with parents and guardians through regular, proactive communication about their child's progress and development.
  • Model respectful and professional relationship-building in all interactions with children, parents, staff, and school management.
  • Ensure classrooms are organized, well-maintained, and stocked with necessary instructional and recreational materials.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director or Site Supervisor to support overall program operations.
Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree required in Education or a related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of teaching experience in an early education or school-age setting.
