Job & Career Readiness Activity Specialist

The Job and Career Readiness Activity Specialist is responsible for leading college readiness, Career counseling, Job training skills, and coordinating internship placements within the Neighborhood Development Area (NDA) Grant at Brooklyn Community Arts & Media High School. The NDA program will serve a total of 35 students, providing assessment, service planning, case management, and/or intervention. The program will support attendance, academic and social-emotional learning, and the connection of students to internship opportunities and resource referrals.

The Job & Career Readiness Activity Specialist is on-site at the school 5 days a week and is responsible for facilitating and coordinating student and family support services, as well as programming and partnerships. The Job and Career Readiness Specialist will report to the Community School Assistant Director. GSS requires that all employees entering the workplace be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Education, Experience and Skill Requirement:

  • Associate's degree preferred or working towards it.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience facilitating and lesson planning with an adolescent population, and preferably already serving the school community in some capacity.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience collaborating effectively with public schools and community-based organizations to improve the outcomes of at-risk students.
  • Flexible schedule and willingness to work school hours as well as some weekends/evenings for parent/teacher conferences and school or agency events.
  • Experience in working with low-income families and communities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Will lead activities of 35 students to provide assessment, service planning, case management, and/or intervention work within the school setting.
  • Responsible for arranging, coordinating, and implementing the initiative's strategies, services, and resources in consultation with the CS Assistant Director and school administration and consistent with the requirements of the NDA grant.
  • Work closely with FDC to ensure quality programming, conduct workshops, and provide group training for participants and families.
  • Connect families to community resources, such as job development and food insecurity support.
  • Participate in ongoing Professional Development workshops provided by GSS, DYCD & others.
