Associate In Education Improvement Services

The New York State Education Department's (NYSED) Office of Education Policy is seeking a candidate for an Associate in Education Improvement Services position on the Field Support Team in the Office of Accountability. The identified candidate will be primarily responsible for supporting improvement initiatives in schools and districts identified through the state's accountability system.

Duties for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assist in the review, approval and management of School Improvement Grant (SIG) funding applications;
  • Support districts in monitoring the use of SIG funds to implement school and district level improvement efforts;
  • Provide coaching and technical assistance to district level staff responsible for the fiscal oversight of high-needs schools;
  • Develop and facilitate professional learning focused on strategic investments in school improvement, including leadership development, instructional coaching, and evidence-based instructional practices;
  • Engage in ongoing professional learning to strengthen coaching, facilitation and technical assistance skills in support of district level staff;
  • Collaborate with team members to develop resources, share expertise, and contribute to a strong and professional learning community;
  • Prepare written materials to support the development, implementation, and refinement of policies and procedures, and guidance related to the work of the Field Support Team;
  • Support district leaders in the development, implementation and sustainability of continuous improvement practices; and
  • Travel, including overnight travel, is expected. Over the course of the year, travel may comprise on average approximately 25% of job responsibilities, with certain months surpassing that average and other months involving less than that average.

This will be a permanent, competitive appointment or a permanent, non-competitive appointment. For 55b/c appointment, candidates must possess the minimum qualifications, a current 55b/c eligibility letter and is subject to verification of applicant eligibility. Promotions and transfers may change appointees' negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. Verification of master's degree will be required at the time of interview for all candidates.

Verification of master's degree and/or transcripts and if applicable, valid New York State teaching certification in classroom teaching, administration and supervision, or school service will be required for all candidates at the time of interview. If applicable, candidates are required to possess valid permanent or professional New York State teaching certification in classroom teaching, administration and supervision, or school service at the time of hire.

Continued employment is dependent upon maintaining valid New York State teaching certification in classroom teaching, administration and supervision, or school service and registering TEACH account every five years, including adhering to all relevant professional development and training requirements as specified by the Office of Teaching Initiatives. Failure to maintain a valid New York State teaching certification in classroom teaching, administration and supervision, or school service and registration of TEACH account every five years will result in removal from employment.

This position allows for the opportunity to telecommute up to 30% each bi-weekly pay period and is granted at the discretion of the supervisor and the appointing office. This position will require 25% in-state/Statewide travel. Federal law may impose additional requirements or restrictions regarding positions that receive federal funding.

This position leads to a maximum salary of $125,001 based on annual performance advances. For new State employees appointed to graded positions, the annual salary is the hiring rate (beginning of the Salary Range) of the position. Promotion salaries are calculated by the NYS Office of the State Comptroller in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law, OSC Payroll rules and regulations and negotiated union contracts.

Based on this position's location, in addition to the listed base salary, this position also receives a $4,000 Downstate Adjustment.
