Description

Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation (CHLDC) seeks an experienced workforce development professional to support the Career and Education Division. The C&E Network provides a clear pathway into living-wage employment in careers with high-growth potential in NYC. Specializing in supporting young adults who are ready to excel in the workforce by providing customizable training sequences, one-on-one coaching, and other career development services.

Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation has an opening for one (1) Full-time Career Advisor at our two Student Success Center sites and 276 Chestnut office in Brooklyn, New York.

Principal Duties:

  • Engage High School students who have interest in career training. Coordinate with school-based partners to reach those youth who are opting out of traditional college access support.
  • Assess and create individualized career training access plans with students taking into account interests, skills, and long-term job prospects.
  • Facilitate actual transition to targeted career training through trips, joint information sessions and robust coordination with training providers.
  • Curate and expand a network of high quality career training partners with particular attention to CHLDC's own options but vetting reputable additional pathways as well.
  • Coordinate engagement with employer partners as program guest speakers, work-based learning providers, field trip hosts, internship sites, and possible employers of our graduates.
  • Understand the labor market, industry standards, and current trends within various sectors to ensure that program participants have effective pathways to self-sufficiency.
  • Facilitate job readiness training to program cohorts as needed (resume writing, interview preparation, professional communication, etc.)
  • Provide customized retention interventions for young adults focused on adjusting to the career training, workforce, navigating job changes, avoiding termination or unplanned resignations and career advancement planning.
  • Coordinate and host bi-monthly networking events for the purpose of connecting program alumni to employers and needed support.
  • Participate in case conferencing with training program staff and ensure that participants receive a seamless mix of employment, youth development, and educational development services.
  • Participate on a CHLDC committee and participate in agency-wide initiatives as required.
  • Participate as a team member of the Student Success Centers at the Lane and Jefferson Campus schools for the purpose of case conferencing and seamless service integration.
  • Maintain intimate knowledge of all Career and Education programs at CHLDC in the interest of connecting students to these programs effectively.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures for maintaining a safe working environment, prioritizing safety of the participants.
  • Ensure appropriate documentation is produced and maintained for all contracts.
  • Participate in training and agency meetings as requested.
  • Demonstrate commitment to leadership development, community building, and community organizing as strategies for social change.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements :
  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Human Resources, Education or similar degree required.
  • Two (2) years' experience in an education, youth services, and/or workforce development field preferred.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet and database applications (Google Sheets/Excel, Slides/PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Ability to work in a high change environment.

Supervision:

Reports directly to Director of Career and Education Programs

Compensation:

$53,000 - $58,000 dependent upon experience. We offer a very competitive benefits package.
