National Grid Ventures is hiring a Policy Manager, Transmission Policy & Regulatory Affairs. This hybrid position can sit in either our Washington DC, Brooklyn NY or Waltham MA office.

Job Purpose

National Grid Ventures (NGV) is at the forefront of the energy transition. We operate across the UK, Europe, and the US, developing, operating, and investing in large-scale clean energy infrastructure. This role is focused on NGV's US business (NGV US).

This role will be a critical resource in the Regulatory Delivery and Strategy team for NGV's US Commercial organization. The Regulatory Delivery and Strategy team is responsible for the analysis and policy engagement discussions to deliver a regulatory strategy that advances current and future opportunities aligned to NGV's businesses. This role is specially focused on engagement within Regional Transmission Organizations (RTOs) / Independent System Operators (ISOs) in specific markets including the MISO, PJM, and SPP.

Furthermore, this role will be responsible for tracking, advocating, and advancing policy positions within the respective states within the RTO/ISO at the Public Service Commissions or their equivalent governmental bodies. The ideal candidate understands how competitive transmission is planned, approved, and cost-allocated, and can translate complex regulatory developments into strategic insights and actionable recommendations.

We are looking for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, works cross-functionally with development, permitting, and commercial teams, and enjoys shaping the rules that govern transmission planning and competition. The position requires frequent travel between the RTOs/ISOs as well as NGV meetings in NYC or Boston as needed.

Key Accountabilities
  • Monitor, analyze, and influence transmission planning, cost allocation, and market design policies in MISO, PJM, and SPP
    .
  • Participate in RTO/ISO stakeholder meetings, forums, working groups, and task forces.
  • Develop internal policy positions and external filings, comments, and presentations.
  • Track regulatory developments at FERC and state commissions relevant to transmission planning, interconnection, competition, and grid expansion.
  • Advise company leadership on risks, opportunities, and strategic implications of evolving transmission planning and market rules.
  • Build and maintain relationships with RTO staff, state energy officials, utilities, and industry partners.
  • Support project teams with policy insights that impact siting, cost recovery, project eligibility, and competitive solicitation processes.
  • Represent the company in trade associations and industry coalitions.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree in public policy, engineering, economics, law, or related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in electric transmission policy, regulatory affairs, RTO/ISO engagement, or utility/energy market analysis.
  • Strong working knowledge of MISO
    , PJM
    , or SPP structures, transmission planning processes, and governance.
  • Familiarity with FERC transmission policies, including Order 1000, interconnection reforms, and transmission cost-allocation frameworks.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to distill complex policy issues for internal and external audiences.
  • Strong analytical and writing skills and the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships with regulators, industry stakeholders, and internal teams.

Washington DC $138,000 - $162,000 a year

Downstate NY $147,000 - $173,000 a year

New England MA $138,000 - $162,000 a year
