The Senior Accountant position is a core accounting and analytics role supporting the Controller in all accounting related matters. The individual in this role is responsible for accounting and finance activities, including monthly and quarterly account reconciliations, budget to actual and trend analysis, financial statement preparation, and ability to summarize financial results for non-financial staff.
EssentialJob Duties and Responsibilities
- Accounting (30%) – Prepare required journal entries, including reclassifications for all assigned accounts; prepare and/or review all assigned account analyses.
- Maintain complete and accurate work papers supporting account balances.
- Financial Analysis & Reporting (30%) – Prepare trend analyses and budget-to-actual comparisons; summarize major drivers of changes in financial results.
- Financial Statement and External Reporting Preparation (20%) – Assist in preparing consolidated and departmental financial statements; provide support for the annual audit process; assist in preparing quarterly and annual external reports.
- Departmental Support & Budget Collaboration (15%) – Meet with department leaders to review financial results and explain budget variances; provide support in the agency’s annual budgeting process.
- Additional Responsibilities (5%) – Document key accounting processes; perform other duties as assigned.
- Minimum education – Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
- Minimum work experience – 5+ years in accounting related positions, with continued expansion of scope.
- Previous accounting software experience.
- Proven experience in account reconciliation and analysis.
$84,000 - $95,000 a year
