Position Overview:
A mission-driven, community-based nonprofit organization is seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support its growing finance team. This role reports directly to the Controller and plays a key part in managing grant-related accounting, accounts receivable, and financial reporting. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of nonprofit accounting, thrives in a collaborative environment, and is comfortable working with multiple funding sources and deadlines.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare and submit grant invoices, drawdown requests, and budget modifications in accordance with funder requirements (federal, state, local, and foundation) Track receivables and collections for active grants, including follow-up on outstanding balances Maintain accurate grant receivable schedules and perform monthly reconciliations to the general ledger Partner with program teams to ensure expenses are allowable, properly documented, and billed timely Assist with audit preparation, financial reporting, and funder reviews Monitor grant deadlines, including expirations and final invoicing requirements Perform budget-to-actual analysis and support variance reporting for grant-funded programs Contribute to month-end and year-end close processes, including audit schedules Identify opportunities to improve processes, strengthen internal controls, and streamline AR functions
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration 3–5 years of accounting experience, preferably within a nonprofit environment Strong understanding of grants, contracts, and compliance requirements Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel), ADP, and other financial systems Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced setting We are an equal opportunity employer and comply with all applicable federal, state, and local fair employment practices laws.
