Today, NYCERS has grown into one of the largest municipal public employee retirement systems in the United States with nearly 375,000 active/vested members, retirees and beneficiaries. NYCERS is a defined benefit retirement plan and a cost-sharing, multiple employer public employee retirement system.

We are looking for individuals with passion, dedication and commitment to excellence and innovation who are interested in adding to our dynamic and collaborative work environment. The Finance Division is seeking an Assistant Supervisor in the Banking Operations Unit. The Banking Operations unit processes all non-periodic (all payments except pensions) outflows, EFT and checks for loans, refunds, death benefits, payments to vendors, and other authorized payments; and maintains NYCERS' banking relationships. The Assistant Supervisor has direct supervisory responsibilities and will perform the following duties:

  • Directly oversee a team of 3-4 staff members: approve leave, evaluate performance, maintain supervisory notes, keep the supervisor abreast of changes, work functions, needs, and take action to correct inappropriate behavior
  • Execute the printing process for all non-periodic payments
  • Maintain non-periodic tax files including reconciliations, year-end issuance of the 1099R, and corrected 1099R
  • Process cancellations for checks and EFT credits returned by the Bank for non-periodic accounts
  • Identify work processes across units that can be streamlined or automated, implement initiatives to improve efficiency, foster an environment conducive to continuous improvement, and handle conflict fairly and sensitively
  • Anticipate and organize unit needs, evaluate and allocate resources, and participate in change initiatives by implementing new directions and providing appropriate feedback
  • Encourage, support, and coordinate team members to participate in the agency's modernization project; adhere to, promote, implement, and reinforce NYCERS Mission, Vision, and Values
