. The Director of Health and Wellness Operations serves as a vital bridge between high-level clinical expertise and the strategic administration of school-wide wellness. By merging the "micro" responsibilities of daily clinic management with the "macro" goals of public health and curricular development, this role ensures that medical care is not merely reactive but integrated into the fabric of student life Director provides essential leadership to the nursing staff while partnering with educators and staff to bolster the N-12 health curriculum and promote a proactive culture of community well-being.
Ultimately, this position transforms the health office from a site of triage into a dynamic hub for health education, preventative programming, and integrated student support. This position is for immediate hire.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Clinical Oversight & Nursing Management- Manage the daily operations of the nursing team across all divisions; handle scheduling, professional development, and performance evaluations to ensure high-quality, consistent care.
- Maintain a consistent, hands‑on presence in the Dyker Health Office to provide direct clinical support during peak hours, manage complex medical cases, and ensure the clinic remains a welcoming and efficient environment.
- Oversee school‑wide health compliance (immunizations, physicals, etc.) and lead the optimization of the Magnus and August Schools platforms to ensure rigorous data tracking, progress monitoring, and confidential record‑keeping.
- Serve as the primary clinical lead for health emergencies; design and implement standard operating procedures for crisis response and update the school’s medical crisis manuals annually.
- Act as the school’s official liaison to the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and maintain partnerships with external medical consultants, community health organizations, and other independent school health offices.
- Propose, revise, and update comprehensive school‑wide health policies and health and wellness programming and initiatives.
- Apply a public health lens to the school community by designing wellness initiatives and workshops for students, faculty, and parents that focus on preventative care and healthy community behaviors.
- Partner with N‑12 health teachers and the counseling team to audit and expand the health curriculum, moving toward a vertically aligned scope and sequence that addresses modern student needs such as neurodiversity, sleep hygiene, and mental health literacy.
- Represent the health and nursing perspective in "Poly Supports" and other student‑of‑concern meetings, collaborating with counselors and learning specialists to provide a holistic view of student health.
- Facilitate ongoing Health Team meetings involving counselors, nurses, and health teachers to drive the design and implementation of proactive wellness programming and school‑wide health initiatives.
- Collaborate closely with the Head of Athletics, Athletic Director, athletic trainers, and PE department to ensure health education is reinforced in physical activity spaces and that safety protocols for athletes are clinically sound and consistently applied.
- Identify gaps in current graduation requirements for health and advocate for the resources, time, and staffing necessary to elevate wellness as a core pillar of the school’s mission.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Master’s degree in nursing, public health, health education, or related disciplines;
Valid Registered Professional Nurse license in the state of New York
Experience: Minimum 5‑7 years of clinical experience, with a clear understanding of the developmental progression of children and adolescents from Nursery through 12th grade. Significant experience in health administration and community programming is highly desirable.
