Social Media and Digital Marketing Intern
Join NYCSBUS as a Social Media & Digital Marketing Intern, a structured learning opportunity designed for candidates with a strong foundation in content creation and social media. This internship provides hands-on experience applying existing skills in digital storytelling, content production, and public sector communications within a mission-driven organization.
The intern will support content creation and digital engagement across six depot locations, gaining real-world experience translating day-to-day transportation operations into compelling digital content while helping establish a foundational social media presence and define standards for future content and platforms. The intern will receive guidance on organizational priorities, operations, and storytelling opportunities, building a deeper understanding of how organizations connect with the communities they serve.
Throughout the internship, the intern will further develop practical skills in social media, photography, short-form video production (mobile and basic DSLR), and graphic creation while working under general guidance. The role also provides exposure to cross-functional collaboration with leadership, HR, IT and electric-vehicle (EV) teams, and operations staff, offering insight into how real-time projects, recruitment efforts, and innovation initiatives are communicated publicly.
This internship is intended for individuals looking to apply and refine their existing skill set in a real-world environment, while gaining additional experience in digital marketing, communication strategy, and community engagement through mentorship and hands-on exposure.
Why Join Us / What We Want to Do
NYCSBUS is on a mission to transform student transportation in New York City—and we are looking for individuals who want to be part of that effort. Each year, NYC spends approximately $2 billion on school bus transportation, serving hundreds of thousands of students. Despite this scale, the system is often perceived as costly, inconsistent in quality, and environmentally inefficient.
NYCSBUS is working to change that. As a nonprofit operator, we aim to demonstrate that public services can be high-quality, responsive, innovative, and community-focused. Our work goes beyond transportation—we are rethinking how large-scale public services can better serve the people who rely on them. Through our digital presence, we aim to reshape how families and communities understand school bus operations, highlight safety and reliability, and shift perceptions around electric school buses and sustainability.
We are looking for support in building that presence—helping tell our story, engage with our workforce, connect with prospective employees, and communicate our impact to the broader public.
