The Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office is seeking an attorney to serve as the Unit Chief of the Parole, Clemency, and Sealing Unit.
The Unit, which exists within the larger Post-Conviction Bureau, reviews the cases of inmates coming up for parole and counsels the DA on what position he should take; advises the Governor’s Office on clemency petitions that are predicated on a Brooklyn conviction; handles litigation under New York’s application-based sealing statute (CPL 160.59) and retroactive youthful offender law (CPL 720.20(5)); evaluates interest-of-justice-based resentencing applications;
and educates the public on all the state’s sealing laws, including the Clean Slate Act.
Responsibilities for the Unit Chief include:
- Drafting memoranda on post-conviction cases for review by the Office’s Post-Conviction Review Committee and presentation to the DA
- Answering sealing motions and arguing at hearings under CPL 160.59
- Answering motions filed under CPL 720.20(5)
- Supervising support staff
