Electrician

The New York City Department of Homeless Services (DHS) is the largest organization in the United States dedicated to preventing and addressing homelessness. In partnership with other City Agencies and Nonprofit Organizations, DHS works to prevent homelessness before it begins, reduces street homelessness, provide temporary shelter, and connect individuals and families to stable housing all with a focus on accountability, empathy, and equity.

DHS is committed to continuous improvement and employs innovative strategies to deliver high-quality services that support a swift transition from shelter to self-sufficiency. The agency manages hundreds of facilities and operates with a large team as well as a several billion-dollar budget to meet the diverse needs of New Yorkers experiencing homelessness. The Facilities and Logistics Division (F&L) is responsible for providing both direct and indirect maintenance and repair services to City owned and operated facilities using in-house skilled trade-workers, maintenance contracts and purchasing operation.

F&L is responsible for monitoring DHS shelters as it relates to the maintenance of building systems. The F&L guides shelter staff on ways to improve facility conditions, and the goal of this unit is to ensure funds are being spent on preventive and general maintenance to avoid premature failure of building systems. The Department of Homeless Services (DHS) is recruiting for three (3) Electricians who will:

• Perform work on the installation, repair and maintenance of high- or low-tension electrical systems for light, heat, power and communications in or on buildings and structures.
• Install, repair, replace and maintain electric wiring systems and components, equipment and apparatus in or on buildings and structures in accordance with the New York City Electrical Code, pertinent plans, specifications and job orders.
• Install conduits, raceways and electrical conductors; conduct tests on existing installations to determine faults and make necessary repairs.
• Conduct and/or witness tests on electrical wiring systems, equipment and/or appliances; prepare applications, reports, notices and other documents.
• Prepare required sketches, drawings and layouts; keep job and other records.
• In the temporary absence of the supervisor, may perform the duties of that position.
• Supervise assigned personnel and keeps job and other related records.
• Ability to work overtime, including weekends and holidays.
• Perform related work.

Hours/Shift: Monday – Friday, 8am – 3:30pm
