Certified HVAC Mechanic
Maimonides Health, Brooklyn's largest healthcare system, is seeking a Certified HVAC Mechanic for its Engineering Department. This full-time, permanent position offers a competitive pay rate.
The HVAC Mechanic will be responsible for the installation, preventive maintenance, predictive maintenance, and repair of various HVAC systems to ensure uninterrupted operation. This role requires diagnosing problems, ordering parts, and servicing equipment that uses freon as the basic cooling vehicle. The candidate will also service and repair pneumatic controls and associated equipment.
Responsibilities include:
- Reading and using blueprints, schematics, specifications, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing drawings to effect repairs
- Installing portable air/water cooled refrigeration units, ice machines, and walk in boxes
- Fabricating and installing metallic and non-metallic parts
- Inspecting equipment regularly as part of a preventive maintenance program and conducting required tests
- Determining the cause of breakdowns, removing, disassembling, cleaning, and lubricating component parts
- Removing and replacing worn or broken parts and reassembling and adjusting cooling units
- Performing major rebuilding work on absorption/reciprocating equipment and supporting systems
- Repairing or salvaging defective components
- Determining the type and quantity of chemicals required to keep the cooling system operational
- Maintaining departmental policies and procedures, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards
- Preparing bills-of-materials to order replacement parts in a timely manner
Qualifications include:
- High school graduation or equivalent
- Graduation from a trade school with specialization in refrigeration mechanics
- Section 608 EPA Universal Certification
- Certificate of Qualification/Fitness for Refrigerating System Operating Engineer (Q01/Q99) preferred
- Certificate of Fitness to Operate Air Compressor (G35) required
- Certificate of Fitness for Hot Torch Work (G60) preferred
- Five years' experience in a similar position
- Thorough knowledge of operational theory and ability to make mechanical repairs
- Ability to follow verbal instructions and select and use appropriate tools
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Good interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English as required by the position
Pay Range: USD $48.65 - USD $49.18/Hr.
