As New York State recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic, the need for strong support systems for our young people and their families is more critical than ever.

The Social Worker will play a pivotal role in providing this support, ensuring participants have the resources they need to succeed.

With an understanding of Positive Youth Development, the Social Worker provides critical strengths-based social-emotional support to youth during after-school program activities. Identifying and assessing the needs of the youth, the Social Worker provides targeted interventions and resources. The Social Worker encourages collaboration and engagement by facilitating communication with families, school leadership, and social service providers. Specific duties and responsibilities include:

  • Plan, organize, and facilitate workshops and events that engage families and the community, providing education and resources to support student success and family well-being. Enhance community and family engagement, focusing on mentorship, employment, and life skills training
  • Supervise the MSW internship program, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to interns. Ensure that the internship experience develops professional knowledge and aligns with the program's goals
  • Work alongside MSW interns to conduct small group and one-on-one sessions with students, focusing on social-emotional learning, personal development, and crisis intervention
  • Oversee the referral process for students and families in need of additional support
  • Provide guidance to interns who will be conducting comprehensive case management, including the development of action plans, tracking progress, and adjusting interventions as needed
  • Build and maintain multidisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated efforts in supporting students' social, emotional, and academic development
  • Serve as a role model and lead in the development of foundational skills including positive youth development, social-emotional learning, and behavior management
  • Offer ongoing training, support, and coaching to staff members on positive youth development, social-emotional learning, and behavior management strategies
  • Ensure practices are aligned with child development principles and current methodologies
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional development
  • Develop and nurture relationships with key stakeholders, participate in school-based meetings and contribute to long-term planning sessions that align with the program's mission
