A high school diploma or its equivalent and one (1) year of supervisory experience in an outdoor job environment such as agricultural, forestry, plant nursery, or building construction operation.

In addition to the above requirements, a person employed in this class must meet the provisions of Chapter 33-3, Department of Corrections Rules and Regulations, prior to independently supervising inmates. These requirements include: (1) Background investigation; (2) A minimum of 32 hours orientation training by the Department of Corrections pertaining to inmate supervision; (3) Approval from the Department of Corrections for supervision of minimum and medium custody inmates.

The incumbent must obtain a Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) with a “P” Passenger Transport/Bus Endorsement within six (6) months of appointment.

The incumbent of this position is subject to pre‑employment, post accident, random and reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing, and the Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse query requirements of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations, Title 49, Part 382, CFR.

Successful completion of a drug test is a condition of employment in the position in accordance with Section 112.0455 F.S. “Drug Test” means any chemical, biological or physical instrumental analysis administered for the purpose of determining the presence or absence of a drug or its metabolites.

Must successfully pass a background check that includes a criminal history check and must be approved by the Department of Correction’s Contract Manager, or designee and complete required orientation/training in the supervision of inmates, prior to assuming supervision. Shall attend refresher training annually thereafter.

Successful applicant must pass a background screening as a condition of employment.

Successful applicant with a current Commercial Driver’s License must pass a query of the Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse.

Responsible to Groundskeeping Supervisor III for the supervision of inmates assigned to the Rock Lake Cattle area and the documentation of inmate misconduct while under Florida Forest Service (FFS) supervision.

This position supervises inmates who will assist in the day-to-day operations and upkeep of the department Cracker Cattle and Cracker Horse herd. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: feeding, grazing, worming, spraying, working, moving and general upkeep of the pastures and fences dedicated to the herd for grazing. Assist with birthing or breeding cycle of cattle. Maintains working electronic records on all cattle, with attention given to identifying calves with proper dams at birthing times.

Ensures minerals, liquid feed and hay are always supplied when needed. Transport animals to different locations as required. Maintains the health of the herd at the department expectations, and immediately notifies…
