Job Description & How to Apply Below

Sr. Aeronautical Design Engineer – Aircraft Structures SME

We’re supporting a confidential aerospace organization seeking a Senior Aeronautical Design Engineer (Structures Subject Matter Expert) to play a key technical leadership role in aircraft design, analysis, and airworthiness compliance. This is a hands-on senior engineering SME role — not a people management position and not a pure CAD drafting role.

The ideal engineer is someone who can own structural integrity decisions, mentor junior engineers, and engage directly with certification authorities across the full aircraft lifecycle.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead structural design and analysis of aircraft components and assemblies
  • Perform hand calculations + FEA (stress, fatigue, vibration, modal, shock)
  • Support aircraft design from concept through manufacturing and certification
  • Ensure compliance with FAA and/or military airworthiness standards
  • Interface directly with certification authorities and customers
  • Review and approve structural substantiation and engineering documentation
  • Troubleshoot structural/design issues and support manufacturing teams
  • Provide technical mentorship (informal SME leadership, not people management)
  • Participate in design reviews and aircraft delivery/testing activities
  • Occasional travel for installation, testing, and customer support
What We’re Looking For
  • 10–20 years aerospace/aeronautical structural engineering experience
  • Deep expertise in aircraft structures and stress analysis
  • Strong background in hand calcs + FEA (NASTRAN required)
  • Experience with aircraft materials, fasteners, and structural assemblies
  • Familiarity with MMPDS, Bruhn, Roark methods
  • Exposure to FAA and/or military certification processes
  • Strong technical communication and documentation skills
  • Ability to operate as a technical SME and mentor
  • Ability to operate as a technical SME and mentor
  • Ability to operate as a technical SME and mentor
  • Ability to operate as a technical SME and mentor
Nice to Have
  • Solid Works or CAD experience
  • FEMAP / advanced FEA experience
  • Composites (carbon fiber, honeycomb structures)
  • Avionics, sensors, or integrated systems exposure
