The work you will do:

Inspector III/District Seven/Director of Trans Operations/District Maintenance/Brooksville Operations

This position will be responsible for inspecting and monitoring work within the state Right of Way. Through cooperation, coordination and collaboration among the OneFDOT team, you will be contributing to a strong and empowering culture of TRREC:

Your specific responsibilities:

  • Analyze complex plans and perform independent complex technical assignments to accomplish inspection and monitoring of work activities performed within the state Right of Way.
  • Verify that work is performed according to all State and Federal specifications, plans, permits, policies, procedures, statutes, rules.
  • Performs approved testing techniques through the use of hand tools, gauges and/or instruments to ensure materials used conform to Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) requirements.
  • Use various engineering tools, equipment, Instruments and computers for performing technical engineering tasks, problem solving and record keeping.
  • Provide information to consulting engineers, developers, architects and permit applicants as needed.
  • Prepares all documentation in order to validate payments to roadway contractors.
  • Perform interpretation of documents related to authorized Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic) device usage, installation/placement and materials to ensure safe work zones.
  • Reviews work site activities for conformity to safety regulations and takes corrective measures when deficiencies are noted.
  • Conducts surveys of signs, guardrail, and attenuators as required by procedures.
  • Provides survey of roadway items to be inventoried for Roadway Characteristics Inventory (RCI).
  • Fills out data coding sheet and enters roadway data into computer data base as needed.
  • Gathers data and performs preliminary reviews for maintenance contract needs.
  • Assists in the preparation of maintenance contracts.
  • Prepares specifications as needed for use in maintenance contracts.
  • Conducts/attends pre-work conferences on maintenance contracts and attends/conducts meetings with contractors/utility owners/permitees throughout life of projects as assigned.
  • Acts as a representative of the Department on all issues related to contracts and permits.
  • Issues work documents on contracts as directed.
  • Prepares and issues work documents on contracts as needed.
  • Performs plans reviews for constructability and adherence to Department standards and specifications.
  • Provides comments on Department policies and procedures as requested.
  • Assist Maintenance Management System / Roadway Characteristics (MMS/RCI) Coordinator by reporting routine maintenance conditions as they exist in the field.
  • Attend annual training to learn the most recent methods of evaluating the Yard's production in the MMS. Keep current in the procedures and other documents necessary to perform MMS evaluations.
